Populariy of hot rod oval track racking immediately post-WWII

Reading 1948 issues of Hot Rod Magazine is quite a glimpse into racing of that era.

In its inaugural 1946 season the CRA (California Roadster Association) paid out approximately $180,000 in prize money- somewhere around three million 2018 dollars!
The Mutual Racing Association (Indiana) made plans to expand their 1949 schedule to allow competitors to race five days a week!

Still my favourite form of racing but it lost its appeal
when they started putting barn doors on the roll cage.

Late 60s to mid 70s was my best. I grew upon that racing.
