Class question: foreign mini pickup
« on: September 23, 2018, 06:50:44 AM »
I found a foreign mini pickup that comes from the factory with a gas J engine.

My understanding is that Modified Mini Pickup allows engine classes C thru I.  I looked at the Bville records and sure enough it shows /M/MP records for engines C thru I.

So then I looked at Production Mini Pickup but I didn't see an engine class requirement.  However, when I looked at the Bville records, /P/MP also only has records for engines C thru I.

I'm looking for confirmation (and discussion) on the following;
1) Is there or is there not an allowance (an ability?) to designate a /M/MP with a gas J engine, and
2) Does /P/MP allow a gas J engine, and
3) If modified, what class would I find myself in?

Both modified and production mini pickup classes allow from C to I engine classes. I see no J record in the rule book. As such you  would run in I class with your J sizes engine.

Can he run a smaller engine than the class?  In other classes the size of the engine has to fit in between the low and hi cubic inch size for the class.  You can't move up.  Since there is no smaller class than I, can he run a smaller engine size than I?  Since the class only goes down to I, my interpretation would be that a J or K motor wouldn't be accepted.  Hopefully Dan weighs in on this,

In the past the lowest class has always been from 0 to that class limit. In this case 1 liter.

Take a look at the engine class displacement chart. At the bottom? there is a statement about running an out of class engine. Something to the effect of if a displacement class does not exist an engine of smaller displacement can run up class.

Thx for the replies, and sorry for my reply taking so long but life got in the way for a while.

To make sure I'm understanding this correctly...
1) If I use a gas J engine in either /M/MP or /P/MP, then I'd compete in I?
2) However, if I use a diesel J engine, then I'd compete in J?
