The Eagle That Would Be King. . .

Ed and his team had such great hopes when I wrote this. . .

Sweet Jesus knows he died trying. An eternal optimist who knew the big numbers would only come when one realized there was no longer a need for a transmission.

He had known for awhile that his curtain was drawing down, yet even then his outlook for the NAE remained bright. Wouldn't it be the best celebration of his life if the team went and took the crown right off Andy Green's head? Would that they could before Bloodhound zings the numbers into unbelievable land.

I met Ed at the Redding Air Show about 2009, and later joined his North American Eagle land speed team.
He was a helluva nice guy, and it was quite a surprise to learn that he (a non-smoker) had developed lung cancer.
It was a pleasure and honor to know him and to give a little bit of help to the team.  He is truly missed.
