Windshield tab mounting.
« on: September 04, 2018, 01:50:12 PM »
I am planning a few "last minute" upgrades before World of Speed, including the addition of windshield retaining tabs.

My question is as follows:  Should the aluminum tabs touch the windshield, should there be an air gap, or should there be rubber "bumpers" of some kind between the glass and the tab?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Steve.

Any of the above are acceptable. I prefer rubber bumpers myself.

I glued a strip of thin rubber as a cushion between the tabs and the windshield

Thank you for the response, guys.  I'm leaning towards some bonded-on rubber strips.  That 3M VHB tape should be more than sufficient to hold the rubber strips in place.

Just wondering, at what speed are windshield tabs mandatory? And what about roof ribs? Phil

Tabs required on front & rear windows on vehicles over 175 MPH. 3.U in the SCTA rule book.

Roof Rails are required over 200 MPH. 4.X of the rule book.
