Perhaps a sub-forum for each of the member clubs of the SCTA. Milers, Road Runners, Sidewinders, etc. This way club specific items can be discussed, asked and diseminated.

There is no club participation in the Straightaway News book (there should be a club based blog for each issue). What makes you think that there will be interest in your suggestion.

Hi, Dan - thanks for posting up on this topic.

Let me soap box a minute.

As a non-SCTA club member of BNI, I find myself frustrated in the lack of information that gets brought to the fore by the clubs.

A lot of what happens at El Mirage seems to have a direct effect on those of us who compete only at Bonneville.

Given the outsized influence that SCTA Club competitors have over an international event such as Speedweek, I think BNI competitors such as mtiberio and myself would be grateful for some insight into the discussions and insights that affect those who either can't be effectively involved in an SCTA club or simply choose not to be.

That said, I get it.  They're volunteer organizations, and we all have lives outside of racing.  If the clubs can't or won't post up on the Straightaway News, or landracing.com, or maintain an information feed on Facebook, be it a time issue, or a lack of a volunteer to make it happen, or even if it's simply the need to keep discussions out of public or prying eyes, that's their prerogative.

But as an example, a few months ago, you brought up in this forum a possible change to the GT class.  I was grateful for that, and while I have no say in the running of the clubs that oversee the rules, as a BNI member, I was at least able to fill out the rule-change sheet, argue against the change, and present my concerns.

Had you not brought this potential change to the fore, I'd have likely been blindsided as to any potential change in my class, and I thank you for that information.

I think a lot of us who race only at Bonneville would appreciate being kept in the loop.

Chris/all,

I get it. The lack of club input to any publication or forum has long been a thorn in my saddle. On one hand the talk is to promote LSR and our people. The opposite seems to be the norm. There appears to be no interest in promotion of any sort. Ron Main stands alone in this arena and is doing the best he can.

I do not have an answer, only a hope, that the SCTA-BNI boards will take a hard look at promotion and info dissemination. The salt is the best it has been in years, now is the time to take advantage and make big steps.

In the interim you might cultivate a relationship with the various class and category chairmen that apply to your vehicle. They are listed here;

scroll down to informational members.
I have conversed with the several of them by E-mail over the years and If you are patent information is forthcoming.

Dan I would respectfully argue that using Ron Main as an example is a poor choice. Ron will not post on any forum or social media. As a matter of fact he has openly criticized those who do. He is the president of the Sidewinders and goes to most of the SCTA & BNI board meetings yet I have never seen any information posted.
The problem from my point of view is ANYTHING that gets brought forward either here or on another forum / social media gets input from many who may or may not have any involvement with racing (of any sort) but like to voice an opinion, which in and of itself is fine but usually turns the topic into a shit show.
You, I, and others have spent years here trying to help newcomers feel welcome to the sport or understand a class or rules question. When a new rule or class is proposed there is usually a reason, sometimes good sometimes not but if you are unable to be involved directly your option is to join a club as a associate member to at least receive the club minutes. Our club, LSR, also sends out the SCTA minutes each month. It is not a simple issue, especially to those who are not able to be directly involved, but even I have NO idea who has sent in a rule change proposal until it is given to the club reps to bring it to the clubs for discussion and voting.

Speaking of LSR promotion, has anyone read or heard about all the new speed records at Speed Week this year in any national news media? Newspapers, TV, radio, etc?

It might be helpful to BNI members if the SCTA would regularly post the monthly Board meeting minutes here in a separate regular category with a specific heading to match.  Of course they'd have to accept that they're usually about 30 days after the meeting and wade thru the typos.
