The Little Giant is shown wearing a different name and number - for this event, at least.

What/who else is here?

We're back in town for the afternoon.  There's ONE custom/hot rod at the Nugget now- no show yet.  I'll get pictures from there tomorrow night for sure.

Some stuff.  That 297 car - the little red 'liner - is running in K/DS.  I haven't seen it yet but I hear the engine is a diesel two cylinder that the racer built from scratch.  I'll chase it down for more details.

In re:  The 1986 E/STR car.  Robin Dripps, the usual driver, broke her back in a crash at home so her long-time buddy (like high school antics buddy - I've heard some of Rob's stories), Rob Gibby, is going to drive the car.  Good news for me, I hope I hope.  Rob and I are about the same size.  Maybe I can sweet-talk my way into a ride. . . rolleyes

There are four courses set up, and each of the courses has three count them three courses dragged and prepared (well, I won't promise that course #4 has three wide).  On the first two the salt is great and white for at least 4 miles and starts showing some brown after that.  The courses look good.  I went chasing way the heck out thee today, down by the 7.  There are plenty of turnouts all the way down the course, and some are at a really small angle - so anybody still going fast can stay out of the crunchies (which aren't all that bad but yes they're there).

Bike inspection sure was slow today.  In early afternoon Papi was lamenting how few bikes were lined up and waiting.

Rick Gold with the ERC fuel truck is here and set up.  I don't have his opening hours for tomorrow, but Saturday and beyond he'll be open by 7, I believe.  Goodyear is here with tire equipment.  I'll have more information about what they're going to be able to do - when they deliver it to me.

Ron Christensen got here this afternoon so the announcing team of Mutt and Slim (or whatever) is ready to go.  I suppose we'll try to send some semi-coherent noise down the stream tomorrow as a test - don't expect regular service 'til Saturday morning.

Life at the 6 mile is great - no waiting and it's pristine-clean!!!

Here's course #1 out past the 6:

Enough for now.  We're going to the Rainbow for supper -- I'll see if there's anything in the various parking lots.

I thought I covered that, but I'm trying to keep up with posts here and on my Facebook and on the landracing.com FB page, too. Anyway:

There are four courses this year, numbered from nearest the pits to farthest away.  Course 1 is the traditional long course, and course 2 is what I'm guessing is going to be a "combination" course - long and/or short (i.e. it has timing lights past the three and is prepped down to the 7 or 8 or whatever.

Course 3 is a short course - 3 timed miles.  Course four is timed for one mile (I think) and is the rookie course.

All courses are three lanes wide to allow for moving easily if one gets farkled from wear or whatever.

K?

I intend to originate the stream on landracing.com, and I know SCTA is planning to link it to their site and to their Facebook page.  I might put it on my personal FB page, might put it on the landracing.com page, too.  We'll get it out there.  I don't know who else will pick it up but they're welcome to do so.  I'll try some audio this afternoon, but first we have to have the equipment dudes visit to set up stuff.

LATE BREAKING NEWS:    CRISIS AVERTED!!![/b]  The a/c stopped working in the announce trailer, but we got it back.  WheW!!  We now know conclusively that if the hot air exhaust is blown into a small and totally enclosed room - the thing overheats and craps out.  It took a little while but we're chill once again.

We now return you to regular coverage.

Further stuff:  We'll be broadcasting out here on 89.3 FM

Great to see Rob Freyvogel and the Carbinite guys at the salt!! I know that they were considering not racing this year, must have been the lure of good salt that got them back. I hope this is the year that they go 400+++++.
