Getting a record at 370 is going to take 1000 hp minimum. More like 1200 to be safe.
Upmost respect to Warren ... he is one bad A** guy, but drag racing is different than BV racing

it seems like we are a little more efficient than that. about 800 to 850 should do it.

Which is well over 3hp/ci in a 2 valve V8. Good luck with that.

yea but when the record is only 307, that gives him plenty of wiggle room.

I applaud his desire to run at Bonneville. He was always one of my favorite PS competitors especially for what he didn't do when we read what he did. I'm sure he will enjoy holding a pedal down for more than a 1/4 mile. My wish to all competitor that they don't hold up the line.....and their vehicles are built to the SCTA specs and not what someone thinks the book says...

we made 550 hp on that record run

Nice efficient car Rick! Great job on that little motor.
We had around 700 hp on our E/BFS on alky. Back then it was a 2 way run as you know measured on the same section of track. Probably pickup 10mph+ going the same direction these days since it would be measured on the last mile.

Blown helps to minimize the power loss at altitude.
With the right airbox you can get a naturally aspirated motor to a couple psi at 300+ which would help Warren

Once you get past 320-350 it turns into a time game instead of a mile game. Eat up the track pretty fast on the top end

Of course. I was talking about the 850 to go 370.

It is going to be fun to watch! At 3 hp/cu.in. that is 780 horse power, it is going to take a pretty slick car to make 370 with that power. Costella and Yacoucci ran 348+ with their blown/fuel G motor and I would bet that it was making somewhere in the 650-700 hp area an additional 100 hps is not going to make 370 mph. If WJ makes the August meet I am going to be really disappointed that I will miss it as it will be very interesting! (Duke and I are signed up for the USFR meet in September.)

One to two minutes at full throttle is not 6 seconds.

we made 550 hp on that record run

If I remember right you had about a 360 plus trap speed with that also.

Harry,

That car was sold to Gale Banks wasn't it? Have you heard from Gale if he is doing anything with the car? Your car was one of my favorite streamliners.

Thanks,

Tom G.

Hi Tom,

Gale bought it around 2004 Last I heard it was at Mike Cooks.
Changed the nose, suspension, rear end and lots more.
Too hacked up to even restore. Doubt it will ever run.
It's 30 years old ... maybe you could run it in the nostalgia class

Hi Harry,

Thanks for the reply. Sorry to hear the liner got hacked up, what a shame. With the E motor you ran a 358 mph pass as I recall or did you go faster than that?

Thanks again,

Tom G.

I ran 365 through the 5th mile on the down run, but lost a couple cylinders in the process(25% nitro). Ran it back on 5-6 cylinders at 335. I think it was going slower in the last mile which gave us a 348 average in the 4rth mile.
On alky Tim Markley ran 335 average to get him in the 3 club on our tune up runs

I last saw the car at Rich Manchan's in Acton. Rich is doing some subcontract work for Mike Cook.

History is littered with people that were going to turn up & go a swillion mph.... & didn't! You have to be pretty sharp to outrun those who have years in the game.
  Sid.

Bonneville also has a lot of first timers that had no racing background or much if any automotive knowledge come to the salt and set records the first time out. Someone with his creds knows exactly what their doing and may even hurt some peoples feeling that have been doing this type of racing a long time. One of the last well known drag racers from back in the 60's who was a drag racing 426 Hemi guru and icon mixed it up and built a land speed Flathead Ford that went over 300 MPH not that long ago. That's about as polar opposite as you can get with both engine design and racing genre's. I think he'll do exactly as he claims or come very close. He's not called the Professor for nothing.
