Event Gasoline at SpeedWeek
« on: July 09, 2018, 10:14:09 AM »
Good morning,
First time to SW, What gas is "event gas". For instance would it be the same as VP's C-12?
What or who is E.R.C.?

Thanks,
Chris

ERC is the long-time fuel supplier for EM and Bville, among other stuff.  Rick Gold runs the company and will be on the salt with a fine selection of fuels.  Look it up:   www.ercracingfuels.com

You'll be able to find lots of information there.

Slim, are you sure ERC is going to be the supplier this year?

No.  I'm just assuming that ERC will be there just like always.  Have you got information to the contrary?

I read it in the June Straight Away news under "Speedweek 2018 Information."

Probably a dumb question, not trying to stir-up $hit, but... why event fuel? Kind of makes things difficult trying to tune for those not living in No.Cal. were the ERC gas is readily available.
El Mirage, you go to impound and sample given. Or you could have your gas in tank tested before making runs and seal it.
Probably a good reason for this procedure but it sure makes it a little more difficult when you get to the track.

VP as well as many other specialty fuel distillers make dozens of fuels. The clearly are not all the same and for different applications make different power. Yes I understand you want to tune to what you are using and that is important. But SCTA wants everyone in the "gas" classes to be on the same level playing field. You can download the specs and compare to your locally available stuff and even call and ask what they think is a comparable that is available to you. I did one time have both some ERC 110 and A19K shipped to me. In Maryland. Made the already dear stuff even more so. Such is life but thems the rules.

Event fuel keeps the gas classes all on the same playing field.

VP is a readily available just about anywhere, and they have a much larger number of formulas to choose from.

I dyno with VP C 14, which is a clone of the 118 octane event gas ERC A-19A.

Compare the key components on the charts, but I used the specific gravity and octane as the basis for dyno work.

I would suggest all y'all look where the thread is posted... there happens to be 2 event gas threads active, one for Bonneville one for Loring  Hate to see you arrive thinking something was legal

"Event Gas" is established in an attempt to support the vendors who come out to help the racers. There have been several different gasoline vendors over the years. This among the previously mentioned reasons.

Another value to having ERC at the track is Rick Gold himself.  He is a wealth of information on fuels and spark plugs and tuning.  He knows a tad more than Billy Biff at the local gas station/cornvenience store, to say the least.  And he knows that you want to go fast - he'll help you the best he can.

Event gas has some very justifiable benefits...at least in our case.

I seem to remember one time back in the 60's the event supplier was Terrible Herbst and it was free!
