Looks like a well fake-patina'd piece of art to me.  Take a closer look at the pics and you'll see it's missing some essential motorcycle parts.

This seems to be what it looked like - before some mods and a fire, maybe??

What the? The guys who seems to have built it, seems to own it and has it listed on ebay is asking on the Bonneville Salt Flats Racing FB page if anyone knows anything about it? Perhaps he is suffering from amnesia.

Nathan,

I just knew we'd find a purpose for that Yamaha QT50 - I'll start pitching Michael's mom.

In Italy I saw all sorts of dinky Ducati utility-like bikes and trikes.  Some had very small 2-cycle engines.

oh ya ducati makes a whole fleet of super small two stroke scooters, cool stuff. in the late sixties early seventies my dad was a Maserati dealer in sacramento ca.  i had a early sixties 250 Diana café ( still got it ). so we were importing Maserati new and used, they also made some way cool scooters , so of coarse I had to have a couple , made em all café racers, for the era they were pretty zippy. wish I would of kept my Maserati café scooters. so this thing could possibly be a duc. pretty far out one.

stumbled upon this lil gem at a Motorcycle Museum at Peterborough in South Australia one year coming home from Lake Gairdner.

Looks have started out as the same bike?
