M&H Racemaster tires
« on: January 15, 2018, 09:56:24 AM »
This may have been covered previously but a forum wide search of subject did not find it. So, my question is, are M&H Racemaster tires accepted for LSR use and can they be used as drive tires for speeds approaching 250 mph?

While I'm only going half that speed, I do have them on all four corners of the Midget.

Are you using tubes?

M&H's are OK with SCTA. I run them on the front of my roadster, 230's. The tires say tube type on them but the tire man that mounted them said they would be fine as tubeless. Went with tubeless and no problems. Can't say about using as drive tires. If you buy M&H's don't tell them they're for Bonneville, just purchase.

Life is an abrasive. Whether you get ground away or polished to a shine depends on what you are made of.

Thanks, Ron. I am more concerned about what SCTA and USFRA says about using them as drive tires. If they get the OK, I will likely buy them from Summit. They don't ask questions.

The rule book doesn't say anything about driven or not. It does say tubes are required unless a racing tire specifically designed for tubeless use. Which would make running tube type M&H tubeless illegal. Inspectors may have a different view. Then you have the option of saying "point me to the place in the rule book where it says....". Which becomes a hassle and doesn't make friends with the inspectors who are mostly trying to help and get 500+cars and bikes through long lines safely.

I can easily run tubes in M&H tires but am mostly interested if M&H Racemasters are allowed to be used as drive tires. Goodyear, 300 mph rated Bonneville-specific 22X3.5X17 Frontrunners are allowed in front but not as drive tires. Better to find out before I get M&H tires, then find out tech will not let me run them as drives. I would like to use M&H because they have a 22X3.5x15 that are perfect for my car.

Ooops! That was Marvin and HARRY Rifchin. Marvin started M&H Racemaster Tire Company. I was with Don Garlits when Marvin convinced him to drop Bruce's slicks and try the M&H's. I then promptly got a pair to run on my B/Gas 1939 Ford/Cadillac. That also was when burnouts really began. making smoke was a lot of fun.

Should have had a rear view shot - with our club plaque. We started the Igniters Auto Club of Chicago, Inc. in 1952. We were in 8th grade and went to watch the "drags" at Half Day, Illinois drag strip - a local airport runway. How did that turn out?

Good days, Dick. I don't go back quite that far but was a bonafide, pre teen, drag race fan when Irwindale Raceway was just a stretch of old concrete and a few rotten wood grandstands. I was fortunate to witness the very beginning of legitimate, organized drag racing.

To get an official answer you need to ask the chief car inspector, Steve Davies.
