Oil filter crossover
« on: December 30, 2017, 12:55:34 AM »
I have a System 1 remote mount from my drag racing days.I think the screw on thread is 1" x 12tpi.I have wire scavenge filters in the return lines to stop rocks & small animals from eating my pump,so I would like to use a Wix type filter for the small stuff before it goes in my engine.Does anyone have a filter# that will fit, rather than buying another complete remote mount deal.
Thanks in advance,Ian

Are you aware that System-1 quit making the original style filter systems a while ago? I had a devil of a time getting my hands on a 75 micron element (for return to drysump tank). Although System-1 said they still have some old-style elements, they do not sell directly to consumers. And since they no longer support the old part numbers, most distributors (Summit, etc.) can't get these old elements. I finally convinced a local retailer to call them and get one for me. [new-style elements are totally different dimensions]

Note: I was referring only to the original filter mounts with the ribbed aluminum housing. I don't know about their other types of mounts.

Jack,I have the remote mount & the ribbed filter, but I was hoping to find a disposable filter that suited the remote housing.
Also, when did my stuff get so old?

Yeah, that's the obsolete style System-1. I don't believe there is any disposable filter that would give the correct oil routing with that, so you're stuck with using System-1 elements. Perhaps you'll prove me wrong- for your sake.

Caution: when shopping for System-1 elements, be advised that they used almost identical part numbers for the new style elements. So don't buy based on just the part number- you need to match dimensions. I learned this by buying one from Summit and having to send it back.

Also- you may already be aware- that elements were available in a variety of screen sizes. At least in 75 and 45 micron, and I think some finer sizes.

As for when these "got so old"... I'm not sure. I think it was about a year ago.
