October 2017 Event
« on: October 11, 2017, 09:08:11 AM »
We had head winds in September, and early projections are for winds out of the NE (slight headwinds) for October 22nd. It could easily flip around, but are headwinds normal for the later part of the year at ElMo?

I don't think winds at El Mirage are consistent enough to say that they'll be a head wind or tail wind based on what time of year it is.  I've seen wind direction change from a tail to a head wind in the same day before.

Just be ready, it is usually not bad enough to affect the slower sit on bikes however you may experience the following wind conditions.

1. Headwind.
2. Quartering headwind (rare)
3. Full Side wind. (Either side and you cant choose)
4. Quartering tailwind/blowing (more common than #5..again either from side however usually more blowing from the left to right just like "Politricks"
5. Tailwind, more pronounced in November usually a benefit for all vehicles.
6. No wind or very little. (run early and better chance of this) if a democrat run early and run often :)
7. Who cares, get there, get teched and get in line, be ready and do your best.  Good luck.

Sincerely,

Noonan.

Weather Underground says no wind until noon on Sunday.  Or at least it said that yesterday.

Impound Insights – October 2017

A beautiful Fall weekend on the El Mirage lakebed was in store for the October Meet. The nights were a bit chilly but the morning sun brought warm temps and just a bit of wind but not enough to blow out the event. There were 141 runs made by the 92 entrants in 2 complete rounds of racing with 11 records set. According to the tower report, there were 8 runs over 200 mph.
Here’s the breakdown……
The morning started off with the Notabusa Comp Coupe entry driven by Larry Foley Jr. The I/GCC class entry bumped their record to 139.159 mph. Soon after, Mark Vigeant driving the Rice Vigeant Racing J/BGL entry, posted a 188.712 mph run. In next was Derek McLeish in the Team McLeish Datsun entry. Looks like Derek finally got the new car sorted and nipped the previous mornings I/GCC record with a 140.385 mph sprint. To round out the morning, Brandon Leggitt posted a stout 248.463 mph speed in the Arnold Hoddinott Leggitt Salkins entry. The team moved the 17 year old record up by over 40 mph in the C/CBFALT class. Well done gentlemen. The afternoon brought a pair of Jack Costella’s creations to Impound. The first was Rick Yacoucci in the Costella Yacoucci entry. The E/BFS rolled through the lights at 263.407 mph speed to claim the record as well as top speed of the meet. The final car to Impound was the Costella Hoogerhyde entry driven by Jim Hoggerhyde. The J/GL posted a 168.366 mph speed to finish off the cars for the meet. Time for motorcycles…..
To start it off, John Noonan rode the Ballistic Batteries Hyabusa entry to a 198.193 mph record in the 2000/APS-G class. He came right back about 20 minutes later on another Ballistics Batteries Hyabusa. This time it was in the 1650/M-BG class with a 213.539 mph blast. Nice work John! Ed Erlenbach riding the Erlenbach Racing Yamaha ran the 250/M-G record to 128.559 mph. Next in was David Consalvo riding for Ridgerunner Motorsports. He pushed the 1350/M-F record to 171.473 mph on a Suzuki GSX1300R. The next motorcycle to roll in was the Old Number Seven entry ridden by Shane San Miguel. 1350/MPS-F record now stands at 186.739 mph thanks to his run on another Hyabusa. Leslie Murray riding a Suzuki GSX-750R ran the 750/MPS-G record to 156.395 but declined to have the motorcycle certified.
The next meet is in November. It’s the final show of the year and don’t forget it’s a two day meet!       We start technical inspections on Friday the 10th and race Saturday and Sunday to close out the season.
Until then, so long from the North SoCal!

Results for October were posted (here:http://www.scta-bni.org/el-mirage-results.html), and then the file was changed and the column with points was removed. In a personal discussion with John Noonan, he said he thought the numbers were wrong. Is this why the numbers were removed from the online file? Any idea when we might see the updated numbers, and more importantly line up positions for November?
