Good work, Stainless. Now that you have a few of the wrinkles ironed out, I am anxious to hear how the car handles at WF.

John

Well I hope I didn't make anything worse...  since in handled great at SpeedWeek.  I think I have better balance moving the CoG forward.  My plan for WF is having Jon Amo back in the seat.  He was driving before Johnboy crashed the car... it will be interesting to hear his thoughts on how it drives compared to the previous edition.
Clock is ticking....

SS
Thankyou for the detail. I am just wrapping up chute release and other cables and wires and tubes (that pass through the f wall) then its back to finalising (ie making it up as I go) the suspension.

My front axle pushrods are 18? apart and my rears 19? though my track widths are wider.

My current forecast with most items having been weighed in is closer to 2,000 lb on the line; more than you but I am a bit more robust and the wee beast has a car engine and box.

I calculated springs (as a starting place) of 180 front, 250 rear with ~1.6 leverage.

I am pleased I am at least in the park though I don't know what the game is; all I know is it needs balls.
A Bonneville Lakester please barman.
Certainly sir; a lick of salt, a sip of gas and a twist of Lemming. More Lemming sir?
Just a squeeze.

A Squeeze of Lemming it is sir.

Yep... most sports only require 1 ball...

Keep after it  :clap :clap

Car is on the trailer, going to drag it to a couple of helpful places tomorrow to show them what they are helping with... It is ready to race...
Did I mention that I re-geared it a little... 2.63 to a 2.48... just for fun... we will see what happens.

Well sports fans things went a little awry... on the first run #1 piston gave up at the ring land according to the borescope we borrowed.... don't have it apart yet but lambda was good, all the other holes looked good... so I'm hoping I find a bad injector in that hole.  All the data was the same as SpeedWeek with the exception of the major compression leak.
On a positive note, Jon had a 207 quarter with 80% throttle for 2 miles and it was a shakedown for him... the plan was drive it to whatever felt comfortable.  He said it drives way better than the old car did... felt so good he had decided to go ahead and run 5 miles and go over 200.  Said it lost power so he shut it off.

So after that I started helping with Ross's (mc2032) sportster.  The goal was to try to get the bike on the long course.... best quarter was 174... but just couldn't get there.  He did reset the APS 1350/PBF & /PBG records from the 168s to 172 and 174... not bad for a 1200cc girl's bike....

Cannot thank Bob "Stainless" Steele enough for the sage advice and invaluable help getting the bike up on the pipe.  Who knew sportsters can shift at or above 8000 repeatedly (sometimes at 8500).  We dropped one tooth on the front to get the rpms up to where the one size fits none turbo would finally build boost.  Funny how that works.  Salt was cement hard, dry but did have some texture.  Morning temps in impound were mid 40's to low 50's and daytime temps barely got into the 80's (Friday return runs were ran in 64 deg still air).
Will let Bob tell what the offseason holds in store for the lakester.  More to follow, probably in a new build diary, on changes to the bike, possibly lifting the gas cap and rolling a whole new bike under it.  A five speed Bruce Jenner is definitely on the short list.

Stainless,
Just back from a 4 week hunting trip in Arizona so have not been on the site for a month, so sorry to hear you had motor problems and this prevented you from going for it. Sounds like the salt was great.

Yep Rex, that's the part of racing that nobody likes... But on a positive note, my sons Rob and James both came out to help with the car.  Both are Bonneville veterans and ex-recordholders on 1000cc motorcycles.
The head suffered a little as well.

Piston fared badly compared to the others, but the cylinder looks ok

All repairable...

The salt was hard... a little rough in spots, but the best I've seen in a couple of years.... and the race was completed... first since 2012

So.....What is the prognosis? Mixture go a little lean in that hole? Almost looks like aluminum spray on the crown. Carry on JB
I`d never advocate drugs, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone...But they work for me.

Is that hole on the exhaust side of the piston?

The rear brake rotor is a fabricated part and the caliper is from a 1980 Kawasaki.
