Online Metals has 5 or 6 inch dia x .065 304 stainless tube, about $50/foot for the 5" and $60/ft for the 7".

Stan,  adding 2 inches to the old tube and it will be about a 1/2 inch larger inside diameter than the old tube.

Rex, yes everyone has 5 and 6 inch.... 5 is a little small and 6 is too large... right now trying the aluminum tube.  If I don't like how it works out I will roll a stainless tube... I can use the tube structurally if it is steel... and I can bolt it in if it is aluminum... And I'll get to practice my aluminum welding putting brackets on it... we will see how it all works out.

Built a piece to tie the bottom tubes together today... yea, no pic, maybe after I weld it to the car I'll remember to take a pic.

Buy a piece of the 6 inch dia and cut a 1.57 inch strip out of it then practice your stainless welding. Probably more work than just having it rolled.

Looking good Stainless~!!

OK, I didn't take a pic of the end cap, but it is in there.
I grabbed the water tank, and tossed it in there to start checking how things will fit... the tube has not been cut yet but the black line is the probable cut point.  Made the 1 x 1 cross brace that will support the front of the tube... I may also lop about 2 inches off the top rails, you may be able to see the marks. I have not decided on that yet.

One of the websites that I tried to buy stainless from fixed a problem I brought to their attention for ordering... so I ordered a piece of 5 inch schedule 5 304 stainless pipe... just got notified they cancelled my order because the didn't have material...  :-( Guess they didn't check stock till I was able to order... Yes I would still prefer stainless because I can weld it in place and add structural strength... the aluminum will have to bolt in to the structure.

Well here is that end cap/parachute attach point I promised days ago...
And no, that part is not done... there is still lots of connecting to do to tie all 4 tubes in the back together.  If I find the tube in stainless that will make it easy... if not, I have a plan to attach braces to make them tie together.

I had the tube and water tank out so I could make the first water tank mount brackets.
Yea Sparky, I'm bracket racing, and man that is a lot of cut-grind-weld... eats up a lot of time

More to come as I slowly make a little progress. Don't mind the clutter.... I always forget to straighten up a little before I take a pic or two

Looking good and making progress. Nothing wrong there.
It's amazing how the clutter builds up. My shop is getting
a tidy up starting today. Thanks for sharing the pics.

Bob...You`d be surprised at the number of brackets/ mounts I have found hiding in a piece of rectangular tubing ...Cuts down on the fab time too.  JB.

What's the point?   Cleanup is "wasted effort" and so: over-rated . . . .

Besides, as soon as the pics are taken, it's back to the "goat explosion"  anyway.

Looking good Bob.

Some one once said, "neatness is the hovel of a small mind!" Take a look at a pic of Einstein's desk some time.
