The Speed Demon team decided to gear the car way tall today - a 528 MPH gear, the thinking being that if the track was slick the long gear would help keep the back end from breaking loose.  They wanted a 420 or so to qualify on the A/BFS record - ran a 418+ and are in impound.

Danny Thompson isn't back yet - don't know if he had any trouble stopping at the far end.  Speed Demon reported he went past them while they were picking up.  I'll keep an eye open in Impound to see if the car is there.

The track is evidently better than some expected.  We're running - and there's a race!!!

Nobody is getting the stream because we aren't sending one.  SCTA is still getting the overall comm system running properly.  Sorry.

Kids, I'm also posting some stuff on the landracing.com Facebbok site.  Trying to give the same stuff so there's no reason to prefer one over the other.

Marlo Treit stopped in the announce trailer - says Les wants to run the car in the morning.  Evidently the Strasburg  lakester ate a set of drive tires on the run it made, and data showed it could have been been a tire hop allowing a quick overspeed which then put a spinning tire(s) on the salt and hurt it.

The racing pace is - mellow, okay?  Kinda what I'd expect for maybe Wednesday afternoon - and it's still the first hours of the entire event.  I haven't counted vehicles in Impound yet - but there are a few.  We've had a good number of spins, all up and down the course.  No incidents that required much worry yet - that's good.

The Carbinite guys have set up a text notification group, see their FB page for instructions on how to subscribe.  Don't know if there's a cost involved.

Text of the last two texts:

Very rough course.  Nose scraped and picked up lots of salt.  Oil leak but not sure where it is coming from.

361 MPH on shakedown run.

Hopefully that's not Top Secret or anything...

Well said Dave. Great post. Thanks for all of your years of dedication. Next time you have a fast car to donate, look me up.  wink
I can't wait to get on the salt. The car (#409 Blue Goose Racing) is there with my brother and father. I'll be there with the rest of the group Monday. Good luck everybody!
