T.R.O.G Bonneville drag races.
« on: June 12, 2017, 11:43:53 PM »
Apparently The Race Of Gentlemen are planning a 1/8 mile drag race at Bonneville September 15-16, which is also when WoS is running. There is some backlash on Facebook about this. They also kinda copied the SCTA logo to promote this. I hope the USFRA is ok sharing the salt with these guys and they don't do anything foolish.

Sounds like they may be a little short on Gentlemen and-or too dumb to realize an 1/8th mile drag on the salt would be a waste of time.
Are they maybe actually going to run at the airport?

No, it is billed as salt drags.

Their other events are ran on sand.

Don't our "friends" at the BLM have to give them a permit? Considering the state of the salt the damage this might do seems horrid.

I am pretty sure that this event is run in conjunction with the  USFRA WoS and will be mostly controlled by them. I have faith that they will keep things under control.

I am pretty sure that this event is sanctioned by the USFRA and will be mostly controlled by them.

OK. When I hear sand drags, envision big flapper tires digging trenches.

It's more like the Four Ever Four meets. All Prewar type of cars. Just done for fun. Not a real race.

Yanno, those pics put me back in the memory of Tony's Avatars.  Anybody heard from him since the bee sting episode?

Do you guys feel better now that you know these are a bunch of 50 hp Model A Ford's "racing" around on a beach playing like it's 1939?  I can't speak for the whole group of TROG racers but some of them are dry lakes racers and so is one of the main event organizers.  I'm sure they're not going to hurt the salt much worse than we already do.  I'm a little surprised some of you haven't heard of TROG but I guess not everyone runs in the vintage hot rod circle.

Slim, you have a comical knack for introducing conversation tangents.   :-D

I have no problem with TROG but I do think it was a little cheesy to appropriate a piece of SCTA signage. What I do find hilarious is the cuffs on the Levi's used as a fashion statement. We started out with those cuffs because Levis weren't made from pre shrunk denim. You had to buy them two sizes big and 4 inches too long so they would fit right after they shrunk.

The USFRA was approached to see if we could help the TROG group stage an event at Bonneville. After some discussions it was decided that we would be willing to share our scheduled time for the World of Speed with the people of TROG.
They will be getting their own permit from the BLM and providing their own insurance. The USFRA has agreed to do the track preparation for them as well as provide cones, markers and other supplies that they might require. There will be a single gate and the entry fee for spectators will give them access to both events.
The officers and local members of the USFRA felt this would be a great opportunity to get new participants and spectators out to the salt flats. The more people that come to see the dire situation the salt flats are currently in, the more the word will spread.
