special construction MC fuel tank
« on: October 25, 2006, 12:08:49 PM »

Is there any rule against running the top frame rail AS the gas tank. The AMA rules just want a "securley mounted tank with attention to craftmanship". I have not been able to get my hands on SCTA rules yet and I don't want to take off in the wrong direction.
Thanks
Greg

I do believe you can use the frame tube as a gas tank.  As long as the frame tube is securely mounted.  Sorry, couldn't resist that.
Get off the stove Grandad.  You're too old to be riding the range.

yes its legal. if ya run a fuel class, the fuel valve must be able to be closed without taking your hands off of the handlebar.

Kent, please correct me if I am wrong however if he can either shut off the fuel pump or "push" the fuel lever cut-off from the handel bars then they are both  "legal" ?

if he uses an electric fuel pump, and it is to be considered as the fuel flow on/off valve, then yes it will work. but all unvalved hoses must be wrapped in fire sleve. and yes he can use a pingle cable switched fuel valve as i use on my GSXR.

Most elestric pumps will not stop fuel flow if just turned off electrically, so if it below the fuel level like it should be it will not stop the fuel flow though the engine may stop.

Shutting off power to electric fuel pumps has been allowed in late model FI bikes in both the gas and fuel classes as long as gas is the fuel. When using Nitro or Methanol a true fuel shutoff valve is required. This can be operated by either cable or electric solenoid. (From the handlebar).

Good , prompt answers from some of the most experienced in the sport.
Even they all have a little different view of the same objective with all the information complementing the other.
The additional plus is that good answers here will also help those that might have been afraid to ask or otherwise mislead.
That is how it should be done.
I think I like it. :-D
