rookie heading to ElMo May 19, 2017
« on: May 10, 2017, 03:02:57 PM »
Will be taking my bike through tech inspection, etc. Any tips for a rookie to guarantee a smooth registration? I have read the rule book, procedures document and rookies guide. Seems like a bunch back and forth between tech inspection and registration. Any one know if they have published minimums for the 'new this year' M classes for motorcycles?

The M is for Maroon -- you gotta have a Maroon tank.

The SCTA website has the Motorcycle Inspection Form.  Along with a current Rule Book, you can probably anticipate what is going to be looked at.

The M minimums have been established -- to the best of my knowledge.  I don't think they're posted -- at least I couldn't find them.

But if I was a rookie, I'd be less concerned with what a possible record was my first time out.  I'd concentrate on the Inspection and procedures.  I'd guess that during the Inspection process, the inspector could bring you up to date on the minimums.  And I'd take a look at the El Mirage Procedures on the website, too.

For the first meet, I'd just go as fast as the licensing will allow you.

I'd suggest you print a copy (or two or three) or the bike inspection sheet and do just like inspectors will -- go through it, top to bottom, and not only see if you've got the item done - but hey, see if there are things you didn't realise you had to do.

Please Please Please fill out your registration and log book BEFORE you arrive in the inspection line.  Inspectors have been known to ask riders who didn't have the paperwork done -- to go back to the pit and get some different color chain lube (not that I ever did such  but I heard about it being done, okay?)

Best wishes, good luck, have fun - and most of all, be safe.

The current version of the El Mirage Procedures is up on the SCTA-BNI website and the M frame mins are listed. There will be copies available at the registration window as well.
Come on out, have fun and race safe!

Realize is the preferred spelling in the New Oxford American Dictionary.

Realise is not an option.

I hope to enter the M-PG 1000cc class with a 992cc 1975 Moto Guzzi 850-T... No chain lube used...

Rookie max speed is 150 MPH. I expect the minimum for that class to be right around there. If I can go 140 on this bike I'll consider it a success. Since you can't set a record from the rookie line, I'm not worried about records for a couple of reasons.

I just "re-downloaded" the minimum list (at the end of the procedures document). The minimum for the M-PG 1000cc class is set at 130. Woohoo. I wonder if I can graduate from the rookie line during my first weekend...

Fantastic Mtiberio,,,

I'll say Hi when I see you,,, look for the Baron race team when inline....

Are you a member of a club yet???

You can run as a guest for "Time Only", I think you have to be a club and SCTA member to set an Official record...

No problem this time out,, just come, run, and have fun while learning the ropes...
