Years ago when there was a beef shortage, when I

was waiting for an evening flight to SLC, I would call

the Hideaway and have the lady hold a steak for me.

2 hour flight, and hour and a half drive and when I

walked in the place she would say, "Hello, Seattle."

I didn't even have to order. She cooked it the way

I liked it and Wendover was "home " for a day

or two.  Oh for those times again.

I don't know, the wayback machine may be malfunctioning but I seem to remember from the 70's that the menu was steak, pizza or liquids.

Twenty or so years ago we went there for dinner -- and maybe a drink or two.  I was with George Scott and a couple of his pals.  George had just finished "restoring" his bright yellow VW Thing.  So we took guests into dinner with us -- each of us carried his own door.

I remember Steaks and Burgers... reasonable prices, long waits for a table if you were slow off the salt.  We usually had dinner there before the lightning show

Wow, never can forget Lightning man!  Great times in the 70's Wendover.......found a couple of links to a video and a book by Vernon Mangold, a certified wildman.  I remember a GMC 6 71 diesel driving a generator just to run the primary coil on the Tesla coil.......Did you come with us Freud?  :-D

This was all done at night in one of the old hangers. Made your hair stand right up.

Matt, all there at one time.

Now I remember why my hair is

standing straight up when I awaken.

Ball lightning was a problem in some

military facilities and the problem was

to try to replicate it in hopes of being

able to prevent it in the offices.

This was Robert's key to having a

hair raising experience at the governments

expense.

His roomie was Dean Moon's Mom.

Here is the map:

Nick
If this map is correct, this cannot be the old Hideaway as it is in Utah, not Nevada.

Right. The Hideaway is now a bar. They are not allowed to sell food for some reason. The map is correct for the new Salt Flats Cafe location. I think it was a Mexican restrant sort of in a trailer last time I was there.
