A couple of years ago, there was a Mexican night club down further south, right near the airfield.  It was on the first floor of a two-story barracks building.  The top floor looked unoccupied -- most windows not in tact.  It was a "bring your own knife" sorta place.  Drove by, didn't stop.

I know the food will be terrific - at least for Wendover. Now, how about the ambience? Will they have all those great photos of the historic race cars and drivers? That was certainly a part of the charm. Slow food and fast cars. Perfect!

Any photos of the new place? How about all the LSR memorabilia, is that in the new place?

I think they said they were taking all of the photos with them when they left the old truck stop, so I'll bet they will have them up at the new place. More Apple Juice please.

Let's hypothecate that the new location is the oft-retitled restaurant straight across the tracks on the right on the way to the airport.  If that 's it -- it's in Utah, not Nevada -- right?  Dang close to the border, I think. . .  Anybody know fer sure?

Slim:

It's DEFINITELY in Utah.  Knowing the place you're talking about -I can remember it once was a hamburger specialty place, then a Mexican joint, and God knows what else. Anyway, I decided to check it out on Google maps.  When I zoomed in - wonder of wonders - it's one of the only things on the Utah side that comes up with its own marker, clearly saying "Salt Flats Cafe"!

It used to have a better name -- The Hideaway -- and served good food until the casinos got an ordinance against it.  They passed one that said you had to be over 2000 (or something) sq. ft. that left only the casinos with liquor licenses and food sales (yes, I know that's not very clear, but hope you get the meaning).

Jack Foster from Portland, Oregon named it the Hideaway.

He was there one evening when the railroad workers came

in after their shift. They all gathered and were relaxing. Jack

said to the bartender, this seems to be their HIDEAWAY.

The bartender looked at him and replied, "That's the new name of this place."
