Production class overbore

  As I understand the rules for motorcycles in Production class, a .020 clean up overbore is not permitted even if the engine doesn't exceed the class CC limit?  Also, is the engine limited to the production bore and stroke or can these be "juggled" so long as the engine capacity remains the same?  Thanks

I think AMA / BMST rules for Production call for no overbore....but SCTA rules allow you to overbore up to the class limit.  It would be nice if AMA would consider revising that rule to match the long standing SCTA Production rules.

I totally agree that the AMA rule needs to be changed to allow equal potential for all bikes in a class.  Why restrict a 673cc bike to running at that size when there are 749cc bikes running in the same class.  There must be some reasoning for this rule in the first place, so tweak this rule to allow building to the limit.  This comes under the category of fairness and equality.

In SCTA the bore and if you want stroke can be changed, as long as you stay within the original class limits, and there are no visible signs of those changes. Example, no stroker  spacers as they can be seen.

RP and edinlr, if you are AMA members then you should lobby the AMA to change.  Resistance to common rules will come from both camps... the SCTA changes rules often... and as is often said "rule changes for reasons other than safety are designed to put someone at an advantage or disadvantage"
