Need aerodynamic help for a tank
« on: October 30, 2016, 02:22:40 PM »
I am starting the design work on a tank and need experienced advisor that knows aerodynamics and the rules.  I am doing the design in autocad Inventor and will be able to send hard copy of the plans to study and scribble on.  I'd like to have it together in 2 years.
Thanks, Oj

Find someone that has had a tank in the tunnel.

The only man I know has passed.

The Das Bullet lakester has been in a wind tunnel here's the video might help you design from scratch.

It's not rocket science , the more crap you stick out of it, the more drag you create. If you put an "oil rig" cage on top of it to cover a driver sitting bolt upright in the thing, you just killed the aero.

OJ, let's start again, what tank do you have to work with, what motor do you plan to run, are you set on a tank or do you just want to build a lakester

I'm set on a tank.  I'm thinking of P38 stretched to 170ish inches, engine is based on one of those 4 cyl Mercruiser Fords, naturally asperated, about 250ish cubic inches or so.  I have an equipped shop and able to build most everything from scratch, including the tank.

Das Bullet is a tank from an A-10 much different from a P-38. A 250Cui 4 cylinder means You will have to run against
destroked SBC.Yoy might want to think of an engine under 3Liters.

Sounds like he's talking about one of those 1/2 460 engines.
My advice is the same what ever tank you use, the more crap you stick out of it the worse it gets. You're starting out with a clean bullet, don't f^*k it up! Get down inside the thing & make the windshield part of the nose. Don't use a fat front tire, there is no turn one in LSR & you don't need a 5 strut Indy suspension with all that extra drag either.

Look at Markly's tank if your set on a P38. Worked then and would work now.

Yes on the engine, sounds like good advice on the suspension.

Thanks Rich, I'm not familiar with Markly's tank but I'll find it.
