Great to see my Limey pal Stewart made it there in his T (H/GMR 617) He has been fighting Cancer for a while now, and it was touch and go as to him completing the build and making it there to run. Those ancient Bonneville Decals came from my stock....... :-D

For the most part, a pretty nice day here in Wilmington today. Temps started in the upper 50's and finally got up to the upper 60's.
As I've said MANY times, it seems like we always have a tailwind on inspection day and then cross/head winds on race day.
Today was no exception.....Lite winds in the AM and moderate winds in the PM.
It started to cloud up around 3:00 PM and by 4:30 PM I was cold enough that I went back to the hotel.
Weather for tomorrow is supposed to be about the same as today so we should have more EXCELLENT racing!
NOTE TO SELF: Probably no shorts tomorrow!  :-D  :-D

All-in-all, EXCELLENT racing all day with (IIRC) the fastest bike at 225 and the fastest car at 224.

Anyway, here is my Google Photos link for todays pics at the start, in staging, and at the finish:

If you are having issues with the above Google Photos link, hopefully this Google+ link will work:

As always, I hope you enjoy,
Gregg

EDITED TO ADD:
Forgot to say that the last meet of the year is always the Brock's Motorcycle Top Speed Shootout, hence the MANY bikes that are here!

Paul, I did indeed meet Stewart! He was flabbergasted when I mentioned your name, explained who I was and how I knew you. VERY, VERY nice gentleman.....but then aren't ALL British?  Thanks for letting me know!
If you scroll about 1/2 down in my picture link you will see 15 pics of him and his car. There are also 2 at the very end as he is leaving the timing slip trailer. IIRC, his speeds were in the low 80's. I'll check tomorrow.
As the saying goes; It is a small world after all!

Andy.....I see your looking at the pics.
I "think" I can honestly say that I do not EVER remember seeing as many belly tankers as there are at this meet.
REALLY wish the Blonde Bitch was here!

Like yesterday, it started out overcast but did start to clear up around 11:00 AM. Temps started in the upper 50's and got to the upper 60's.
When I got to the track this morning, I rode through the pits and it seemed that about 1/2 the trailers were gone. As I rode over and through the staging lanes that indeed was the case. I kinda felt that we would be ending earlier than 4:00 PM.
Winds remained relatively calm in the AM but did start to pickup early PM with the as always Wilmington headwind at around 8 - 10 mph. The headwind changed to a cross wind and bikes were limited to 150 for about 45 minutes.
The rain around 2:45 PM sealed the fate of this final meet as the track would not dry in the remaining 1 hr and 15 mins cutoff time of 4:00 PM.

Stats for this meet are:

668 total runs

Fastest Bike was Shane Stubbs piloting Don Hass' A/BF-1650/4 at 245.4992.

Fastest car was C. Douglas Johnson's BEAUTIFUL RED AA/BFSS Mustang at 236.8421
All-in-all a GREAT meet and many thanks to the ECTA volunteers!

The Wilmington Air Park has been a GREAT venue and even though we lost this facility, I'm REALLY happy for the folks here in Wilmington. Many more jobs for the community!

Kiwi Paul, Here are Stewart's runs from this weekend:

617 H/GMR  76.7918  G. Stewart Woollard
617 H/GMR  83.1025  G. Stewart Woollard
617 H/FMR   78.0437  G. Stewart Woollard
617 H/FMR   82.2068  G. Stewart Woollard
617 H/FMR   97.4448  G. Stewart Woollard
617 H/FMR 102.2263  G. Stewart Woollard

I told him he will forever be the record holder as all Wilmington records will be retired.
We will begin anew at the new venue like we did here!

Greg....That`s great!! He was trying to go 100 so i`m glad he made it. Bet he nearly came unglued when you told him Hi from me! Cancer really is kicking his butt, so a bunch of friends came together and helped him get it done. Isn`t that how we Racers roll?? :-) :-) :-D

I know he REALLY had a GREAT time here this weekend.

Good on all you guys for helping him.  As I posted yesterday, VERY, VERY nice gentleman.

The rain "should" have been the MAJOR story for today. Instead, we were officially told by Tonya that this is the last meet for us here in Wilmington. The ECTA officials, Tonya, Keith, Kerri and Brian, are actively looking and have been in contact with several airports. Many folks, including myself, have given them suggestions. If any of you fine folks out there in internet land have a suggestion, please get in touch with any of the above folks.

I'm sure this suggestion has come up, but the Shuttle Landing Facility (SLF) in Merritt Island, FL--which is now operated by Space Florida--has hosted both NASCAR testing and a few land-speed runs in recent years. I can't imagine that there's a huge amount of air traffic there, and the 15,000-foot runway would probably be adequate for the ECTA's purposes...
LTA   G/BGALT Record (1 mile)     143.313
LTA   G/BGALT Record (1.5 mile)  148.321
LTA   F/PRO Record (1 mile)         114.668

Gregg,

Yeah, wish we could have been there to check out Mike Brown's and Jim Flemming's tanks.  Do you have any idea why Jim didn't make a run?

Would have liked to make it to Ohio for the last meet but we are still on post Bonneville burnout.
