Speed Demon 715 new record
« on: August 15, 2016, 07:26:05 PM »
Well for the first race event on the new car it's coming around nicely. Today, George and crew set the B blown fuel streamliner record ~416 MPH. Yesterdays run was 403 and today's backup was 429 spinning the tires! This breaks Al Teague's 1991 record of 381

Congratulations

Isn't spinning the tires why he had to build a new car?

The track is just not that good for the high power cars but its better than no track at all. He is not the only one having tire issues at this event. It just needs another set of tires. I do not expect to see the speeds climb much higher due to traction issues. Maybe with a longer track where you can get up to speed slower, or maybe a better amount of salt on the track and maybe................ it just goes on and on. The truth is, the new car has done done nice for it's first race event and its not over yet!

New record is 416.511 mph (first run 403.923 mph - backup at 429.099 mph).

Thanks to BangShift for publishing photos of the time slips.

I was at the salt yesterday when Poteet and Main sort of "threw down the gauntlet" as they did a 442  mph out the back! Let's see if anyone else can top that.

Not trying to start anything but Ron Main is no longer involved with the team. Ron told me this at SEMA this past year. The new streamliner is all George's car.

Not meaning to detour this thread, but is Ron Main still involved with landspeed racing?

I watched the run from the 4 and it was well into the TC at that point and continued through the 5, not a lot of traction out there once you got beyond 3, 3-1/2, at that point the faster cars started throwing rooster tails.

Doug Macmillan even spun the #76 liner early in the run...

If Ron has left the Speed Deem on team, it's  news to me. We talked at the GNRS  about the car as it sat there naked with Isky  sticking his head between  the tubes and everything  else to get a good look. He never mentioned  it to me  at the L A Roadsters  meet in June when I  asked him  to  come speak to our club  about Save the Salt and his LA efforts. He deferred until  after the season  because  of all the  time  needed with the new car. And lastly, if you look at the pictures  on Bangshift.com  there is either Ron or his twin brother in several shots. But I could be wrong.

Ron was certainly there with the Speed Demon guys this weekend.  While the entry in the 2016 program no longer shows him as car owner, he is listed there as one of the crew.

Ron loves the salt so I do not think he is going anywhere. He is still working with Save the Salt as far as I know but George owns the new car and team this time around. I am sure Ron is welcome anywhere the car goes if he wants to come.

What did they run today?  Are they sitting in impound?
