1959 Ford Galaxie 272 3-speed
« on: July 28, 2016, 11:30:08 AM »
Howdy.  My grandson bought this car about two years ago.  It runs, it drives, it's licensed and on the street (I even can, three-speed on the column and all) -- and yet -- -

Sadly, I don't see Andrew rescuing this car.  It oughta move to someone that has more motivation - 'cause he's young and too busy with girlfriend and job and stuff like that and the car is sitting on my property waiting for ---

Anyone got some idea on what he oughta get for the car?  I don't know the marketplace for this stuff -- don't even really know where to look.  Some idea of where I can point him to get it turned over to someone that's got the time and inclination to properly appreciate it?

Jon, Didn't you post a picture of that car a few years ago?

I have a vague recollection of something like that.

Yeah, I did.  I've got the photo someplace -- will either post it or take another one.  Thanks for the reminder.

Maybe I'll drive it to Wendover.  Unh, maybe I'd better leave a few days early.

Those prices seem very optimistic.  It's not a '57 (the pretty one).

Thanks.  I figured there'd be such stuff available on the internet -- 'cause of course, there's EVERYTHING, and it's all 100% true, so I know that all I'll have to do is point Andrew towards that site and he'll collect his $$ is a day or two.

That was easy.  Thanks, gents.

That sight is constantly being up dated from national sales records. Hagerty is another good sight.

If it's a 272 the engine is a 55 or 56.. 292's were base V8's in 59. Still a cool older car.

My first car was a 54 ford and I believe it had 239 "Y" block.

And my first was a 1959 Thunderbird 352 2 bbl/FordoMatic 2-speed.  Not quite the hot combo off the line, but it'd go well if I had a few miles to let it run.  I guess I've just answered the question of "How'd you get interested in flat out top speed?"

But I've never heard of a 239.  Should I read the article Mike put up here?

I like the coincidence of some Ford numbers. The first OHV V8 ('54) was 239 c.i., same as the last flathead V8s. The first Windsor V8 ('62) was 221 c.i., same as the first flathead V8 ('32).
