Our successful day of running was annihilated by the crash of

Sam Wheeler in his streamliner motorcycle. Sam was the next

vehicle after we made our run at Mike Cook's Test and Tune

on the Bonneville Salt Flats. Excitement was high when it was

announced that testing would resume on the Bonneville Salt Flats.

That all came to a screeching halt when it was told that Sam

died during surgery in Salt Lake City. He was such a gentleman.

Anyone that knew him had only positive things to say about Sam.

Our condolences to the Wheeler family. As we mention families the

small group of people that are attempting to break the 400 MPH

goal, Mike Akatiff, Ack Attack bike and Denis Manning are now

without one of a small group of racers. It is so saddening.

I'll write a summary of the Treit and Davenport events in a

day or so.

Sorry to make this announcement.

FREUD  for the TREIT and Davenport Target 550 team.

*RIP Sam.

OMG that is such terrible news!  I was at Bubs when Sam set the top speed record for a bike.  I was in such awe of the man.

Very sad news.  My thoughts are with his family and friends.  Although I did not know him personally, I often took note of his accomplishments and his innovative approach to lsr.

Godspeed

John
