I 'spect Dan Warner will be sending his Impound Insults (or is that Insights?) any day, and they'll get posted here and on the SCTA website as well as in the men's room at major hotel chains across southern New Hampshire.

Well, maybe not the last

Event went well save for a few spins and some engine carnage.  Didn't have the El Mirage horsepower adder as the June meet did so Impound wasn't quite as busy but still records none the less. Was neat to see Rick's streamliner doing some shakedown runs. Bitchin looking.

Dan sent this along a little while ago:

Southern California Timing Association
El Mirage Impound Insights - June 12, 2016

Tech Inspection was held in slight winds and pleasant temps on Saturday. The wind was headed up course, opposite of the May tail winds. This prompted some wag to remark that the records set against the wind should be averaged with last month's tail winds to see who had a real record. The plan did not materialize as there was no wind on Sunday, go fast day.

Two new El Mirage members were welcomed into the club. The first was Rich Thomas, son of Chet and Shirley Thomas in the 711 AA/BSTR out of Vintage Hot Rod. Rich set the record up to 216. The second record came from the motorcycle gang as Tim Cunha drove the Costella/Cunha & Bassano 1000-SCS-G silver bullet to a super 203 record - over 27 MPH faster than his May speed.

Records were set by another eleven car racers. The first was Mark Vigeant in the Rice Vigeant J/BGL adding 8 MPH to the class record. Steve Moody drove the Mariani Farms E/BGMR entry to a new class record of 237 MPH. I must mention here that the course held up well during the entire meet, I heard no complaints in the Impound from the drivers I spoke with. Scott Goetz was in the Aardema Braun Lattin F/GRMR driving to a new class speed of 179+. The beautiful new XF/BGR of Erik Hansson was driven by Ruth Lundring to an excellent 181 record against the old class record of 164,  great 17 MPH increase. The Ferguson family team, Ferguson Racing with Don Ferguson III driving, brought out the XXF/BGR and added 10 MPH to the 160 minimum. The engine in this roadster uses the Ferguson Ardun heads and S.C.O.T. blower which is made by them. All polished aluminum, very pretty and fast.

Roger Beckman, driving, and Tim Cox brought the B C Racing team from AZ and set a AA/CBFALT record of 227 with their bright red Camaro. The Cohn Jucewic Monza, driven by Bob Jucewic, added almost 8 MPH to the C/CGALT record with a 207.9 MPH run. The Hondata crew changed to a G/BGCC combination after breaking their H class engine in May. Aaron Hale set the record at 201 during the first break in pass on the new engine. Larry Foley Jr driving the NOTABUSA I/FCC entry set the record up 136 and are looking forward to a successful Speed Week. The Lattin & Stevens flathead continues to impress with an increase of 17 MPH in the XXF/GCC class with a 171.9 record, Bill Lattin driving. The Jim Stevens designed and built Ardun style OHV heads are working really well. Steve Tillack changed classes with his Toyota 2JZ turbo powered Datsun 240Z style coupe. Running in the F/BFMS class Steve survived a couple of spins and set the class record to 194 MPH.

In addition to Tim Cunha's record mentioned earlier there were 5 more motorcycle records set. Derek McLeish rode the Team McLeish HD to a 50-A-VG record 62 MPH. This run gave the team the most points for the meet, 247, by adding 22 MPH to the 40 MPH minimum. Young Cayla Rivas set her first record of what promises to be a long and successful LSR career. Cayla rode her 500-APS-PG entry to 130.6 MPH. Look for great things from this teenager. Dave Iversen runs in the 1000-SC-VF class and set yet another record at 123 for this meet. John Noonan entered the 1650-A-BG Simple Green-Clean Machine backed 'busa and ran a top speed of 230.2. Chris Rivas entered his Chris Rivas VTwin  Harley in the 3000-APS-PBF class and ran a record speed of 219. Chris and wife Dianne are the proud parents of previously mentioned Cayla Rivas.

Next event is July 17, inspection on Saturday July 16. Everyone is anxiously waiting for news from the salt. The set up team are planning a July 4th trip to assess the salt and hopefully begin some preliminary grading. Keep an eye on www.scta-bni.org for current news.
