Joe Amo the Runner
« on: May 29, 2016, 05:47:02 PM »
I didn't know where to enter this but here goes.

Short ( 26.2 miles ) and steep.

Joe Amo from Rapid City, S>D ran and finished the Everest Marathon.

I'll try to get more accurate info soon but it started at an elevation

around 20,000 feet. The info that I received said that he finished 5th

for runners that aren't  from Nepal. People that climb Mt Everest plan

around a month to adapt to the elevation. Joe and his daughter, Kyaera

have been there about 10 days. They will be home next Sunday.

They are a tough pair. I congratulate them AND the rest of the family

that enabled him to do this event.

Since the course is downhill, he should be required to run it the other way before receiving an official time.

Congrats to Joe Amo, good showing in a very tough race.
Unfortunately I had to quit running marathons years ago, my knees convinced me I was not properly engineered for that event.

(note running down hill is much harder on your joints that flat or up hill)

He finished and is the  O N L Y  A M E R  I C A N  to ever finish it. He should be back in Rapid City Sunday, June 4th.

One tough bugger and his daughter was there with him through it all.

Just landed Seattle

Not first from USA to finish, but first place of USA entrants this year ...
8 th place officially internationally

Tortoise ...if you think it's "downhill"...think again, also it can't be done in reverse .....you can't ascend at those altitudes in quick fashion

It is primarily down...then look at the times and try to figure out why it takes 2-3 times longer to finish than any other marathon ...

great challenge

you against Mother Nature

just like Bonneville

Ps tortoise ...the world record holder for most marathons in a lifetime was there...said "toughest marathon in the world"...that's how "easy" it is

Congratulations, Joe. As a marathoner and ultramarathoner myself, I know it's not easy. My remark was intended as what we earth people call a "joke".

tman will do

tortoise...i blame it on hypoxia..lost my sense of humor for
a moment..

i get confused easily...for example i though i remembered seeing
legislation or other delineating what has been going on at BSF...and after returning
from Nepal....i see people up in arms about mentioning such factual details in public...

Joe I hope You know how much I respect BOTH of You.

You are one tough bugger and then to think that You

brought your own nurse with you is excellent planning.

I'm waiting until I see You.

I will be in Wendover the day that Speed Week is to

start. Even if it's cancelled or postponed I will be there.

I just can't let myself miss the year.

Bring Judie and meet there. There should be rooms at the 6.
