Thanks, Sid, for what you're doing.  While the "powers that be" might require that their methods be used for any data gathering -- your work is telling us the story - soon to be the ongoing story -- without lotsa blather and obfuscation.

Thanks!

Make sure your probe is at least 3' long so you can get through all the dust that's covering the feet of salt that's there (TIC) Waiting for your report.

Life is an abrasive. Whether you get ground away or polished to a shine depends on what you are made of.

"It's been raining like a MF . . ."

I thought you meant Monday thru Friday.

Nope, it's a bike class designation - for Modified/Fuel.

Right :?

I went down 3ft last time, I was thinking I might go down 6ft this time to see if I can get through all the Bull$hit!
The rain has set in down wind from there right now, not a good sign.

I have had a few offers from people to help with my expenses for another Bonneville testing trip that I'll do when the water goes down & I appreciate that.

I'm in Wells, Nevada (about 60 miles west of Wendover) right now,
on a trip from California to Montana.  Unfortunately, my route to
Montana doesn't include going through Wendover.

But on the way back, I plan to stop at Bonneville to have a quick peek.
I'll report on what I observe.  It's likely to happen in about a week.

I know you're trying to be helpful, but what it looks like in May has almost no bearing on what it presents in August.

Stan, give 'em some support for sampling anytime.  That is -- a string of samples taken every year on ANY date will (eventually) give useful data that can be analysed with samples from other dates - making some kind of conclusion-drawing that much more likely to be correct.

Hunh?  What'd I say? :?

I thought Stan was referring to Tallguy's post. It's true that the condition of the salt now has no relationship to its condition in August other than if there is a noticeable lack of salt where there may be no water. At this time standing water is most likely.

Tallguy, Are you cruising down I-90 in Montana? If you come by Columbus I'm only a short detour off of the Interstate and the beer is cold.

I don't think they have been running for some time now...

... the picture above was taken by Norris, who runs Bonneville, on his way to Calif. about a month ago.  Hooley sent it to me.  It is just the end of the road area so doesn't show much for where the courses are.  Things I've heard from my 'club reports' indicate there is salt to about the 3.  Things don't look good at the moment past the 3.   It will be interesting to see what Sid finds on his trip there,
