Day 1 in the books
« on: May 06, 2016, 10:17:35 PM »
Weather was great, ran until about 7:15 this evening. 222 I think was the fast pass on a bike by Hussain Al - Sowaigh.  174 with a car driven by Jordan Hanson

Going off memory and I am beat so I could be wrong.

Another picture perfect day. Sunny, warm and a nice tailwind.

Greg Neal set record 311 today which was a bit emotional for most of us. He then went on to bump the number to 343? total.

Hussain bumped his speed to 255 in the mile

2 new two club members, Ben Knight at 227 in the mile and Gilles Chiason at 206? at the 1.5

Dorheim (however it is spelled) and Biglow went 247 in the 608 lakester

It went well. Any incidents were handled quickly. Lines went fast, runs were plenty.

Cant say thanks enough to all of the racers and volunteers who make this happen. It truly is a group effort

Thank you Ron. Its simple, I try and do things as I would like to see things done if  I was on the other end.

Top speeds stayed the same from Saturday. Made about 100 runs today. All in all a great event. I will link to the pictures after Stacy gets them sorted

I am pretty sure the 311 number is the famous speed that Bill Warner made n 2011 on his motorcycle. He later died trying to beat his own record. If Greg Neal made a run at 343 mph that is truly incredible.

Me thinks that is the total number of records that Greg has set as a tribute to Bill!  :-o

Greg Neal wanted to achieve 311 land speed records as a tribute to Bill Warner.  311 is the record that Bill set for sit on motorcycles. Bill and Greg were friends from the Maxton events.

I wonder about that #343 - if Greg set #311 that day it'd be one heck of a trick to run another 30 records - heck, another 30 runs,

But as for the special-ness of the number 343 - that's that number of firefighters that died in the 11 Sept bombings a decade and a half ago.

Ask Bob Wanner why his race number is 343.  He's a retired firefighter from New York.

It was 343 and he left the event at over 360, 365 I think was the total number.  Keep in mind,  some passes set 2 records
