MPS-BG class equivalent for SCTA at El Mirage
« on: April 14, 2016, 11:55:19 PM »
I am new to land speed racing, so this might be a noob question to ask. I am hoping to run in the MPS-BG motorcycle class at Bonneville, but prior to that I will be running out at El Mirage. From what I can see the MPS-BG class is for Bonneville only. What class should I be entering at an  SCTA event? APS-BG (Special Construction Partial Streamlined Blow Gas)?

Thanks

El Mirage only has "A" class bikes so APS-BG. Are you aware that El Mirage is club based and to run for a record you need to be a member, there are required rookie runs  as well.
Bonneville 2001,2002,2003,2004,and NO stinking 2005,DLRA 2006, next?
Well, sure can't complain about 2008--6 records over 200 and 5 hats from Bonneville,Bubs, and El Mirage for the team!

From what I have read, I can still run at El Mirage without being a Club member. The caveat being that no records can be set if I am not a Club member

From the SCTA website:

Quote
All entries must be a member of one of the clubs within the Southern California Timing Association. But - there is a "Guest" option to race on the course for "Time Only". All drivers MUST be licensed for the speed at which they will be racing.

Can rookie runs be completed without needing to be a member of a team?

Thanks

You can make licensing runs without being a member of a team -- but pushing the bike all by yourself back to the pits is only for the hardy.

You can make licensing runs without being a member of a club -- but records don't count.

No.

It's exclusive.

It's a Roadster club.

Only got one Member -- a few Associates.

OK, so I can go and run, do the licensing etc. but can't set any records.

You can make licensing runs without being a member of a team -- but pushing the bike all by yourself back to the pits is only for the hardy.

I was planning on having a couple of my buddies there with a truck.

Pits are open to non-club members too, right?

You may want to inquire as to the entry fee for guests. SCTA members pay $100. I don't know what it is but the guest entry fee is much higher.
Unless it's crazy, ambitious and delusional, it's not worth our time!

I understand you need an access pass from the BLM, too.  Correct?
Where do you get one and how much are they?

If anyone has more information on the entry fee please share. I can't find it anywhere on the SCTA website.

Also, is there a rookie orientation on Friday afternoon and Saturday afternoon for the two day event in May, or just Friday afternoon?

Thanks

Most of your questions are answered on the SCTA site under El Mirage, specifically El Mirage Procedures, and even more specifically on pages 6 and 7.  You should read the whole thing if you're thinking of participating.  As to the fees -- probably less than your travel expenses.  It could be there somewhere -- you may just stumble upon it and can enlighten the rest of us.

Last time I noticed the guest entry it was $250. However, that was a while ago and it may have gone up some..It is posted in the registration trailer on-site… It is less than any other LSR venue I know about….

Rookie class Friday and Saturday afternoons….about 4pm….

Im also in Costa Mesa,,, I'll be glad to advise you on stuff if you'd like…

Next meeting of the race club I'm a member of is May 5th at 7pm…You can attend as my guest no charge….

What displacement bike are you going to run ???

Hi James,,,

Gear Grinders ,,, the oldest speed club of them all,,, since 1938 I think….

Cars and bikes welcome …

Im also running a 350cc bike,,, I just loved the 305 and 350 bikes that were around in my youth that I couldn't afford.

Im in APS-350PBG… I've converted a Moto Morini street bike into a supercharged 50's-60's era road racer type bike..

No Problem even if we are in the exact same category ,,,,, I'm glad to help,,,the more the merrier…
