Hi'  It all depends on the mfg. of the gears.  Most high end mfg. run their gears in and need no further run in.  Mfg. that just parkerize their gears should be run in.  Gears that are parkerized have a black color to them, that needs to wear off.  All are high end gears like the 2:30 Ford 9" gears have been run in and then we Rem finish them.  If the gears have been Remed  finish and come from a good mfg. or company they most likely have been run in and are ready to go.  If in doubt you can run in gears this way.  Used 75/90 minerial gear oil, start your engine and warm it up.  Be sure your vehicle is on jack stands and the rear is not hanging lo( put a jack under the gear )   Put the car into gear and warm the trans. and gear up.  After it is warm put the trans in high gear and run the engine at approx. 3,000 RPM  keep the gas steady and drag the RPM down using the brakes.  Do this off and on a number of times, I usually do this about ten times.  Let the rear cool off and change the oil.  Use a good synthic  oil now.  Hope this helps.  Mike MF Perforance
