Big Snowstorm in the East - post your stories here

Hey, why not have a place where we can hear the tales of drifts and blistered shoveling hands?

Have at it -- let us know if at least you've still got enough service to get online here.  Good luck.

Oh it was terrible here in portland last month, we got like, an inch. It was then followed up with freezing rain on top, for like 4 days it was slick. :)

Took a ride on my bike here in Kansas City yesterday, getting ready to go for a short ride again today. 2 inches of snow melting off makes for some wet spots and sand/salt in the corners can be kind of tricky.

Really, I hope everyone on the East Coast is doing OK.  :-)

29" accumulation at JFK Airport .... We have all 80 acres plowed and just started melting 4 hours ago.  I anticipate we will be melting snow for another 24 hours or so.

Joe

Was just getting ready to text you to see if you quit over the weekend.  :-D

Oh, btw we got zero snow from this storm. As a matter of fact we have almost no snow to speak of. I am willing to bet the runway is better than 50 % clear right now

Still melting snow.  I left work to go home and wash/change clothes. Heading back.  Have another 12 hours of melting to do.  Forecast for tomorrow has 40* and rain starting after 2 pm ... if temperature holds that will be great.   Joe

Joe, that's one heck of a lots of melting.  Any EWAG on how many cubic somethings -- yards, meters, light years -- of snow you collected for melting?

We have 3 DeJana melters.  600 tons per hour capacity.  They are 55 foot trailer with a tractor attached.  Uses diesel fuel.  Burns 300 gallons an hour each.  They get fed by 2 payloaders.  Snow gets dumped in the hopper and water runs out the bottom.  this event was 29" and we melt about 80 acres.
