The snow fall through this part of the country has so far been about the same as the previous four years. The different salt surface condition is always relevant to the spring & summer weather. Last year it rained all through spring & right up to Speed Week, leaving us with crappy conditions. The previous year was dry through the same period allowing the salt to dry out but the reason it dried smooth was due to the lack of wind. Southern Idaho & Northern Utah is jetstream country but in 2018 the jetstream stayed further to the north allowing the crust to dry unagitated.
Keep an eye on spring, that will give you more of an indication what to expect.
But don't hold your breath waiting to see more crust thickness/thinness though!
