National Museum of the USAF - Wright-Patterson AFB Dayton, OH
« on: December 14, 2015, 06:59:05 PM »

Another day another museum!  :-D

This time it's the National Museum of the USAF on Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, OH.
I was here 2 or 3 years ago and had troubles getting pictures because the 3 hangers are dimly lit.
I took time to RTFM of my camera and this time I shot the pics on the nighttime setting which required a steady hand (no mono or tri pod). Some of the pics are OK and some are a touch blury.....I ain't no professional photographer!
There are currently 3 hangers from early flight all the way to today. There is a 4th hanger that is supposed to open in June of 2016 that will have even more planes. When I come to Wilmington in September 2016, I will be back here with a better camera.

My main reason for posting these pics are to give you and idea of what this incredible place is like.

Here is my Google Photos link:

As usual with my pics, I hope you enjoy.

due to the missing salt I visit in September the Indy Museum and the Wright-Patterson....

and visit the Bockscar....done lots of picture from this plane and the B52....especially for my friends JohnBoy and Stainless (think this picture worked not too bad out, or?)

had great fun with the guides in the W-P, told this guys the connection from the Bockscar plane to the salt via the lakester.....

the 4th hanger are for the X Planes....in the moment they use for this planes one of the two Presidential hanger...unfortunately the X15 isn't on display due to a ground up restoration...some of this planes starts aging...over 50 years old.....

Gregg, hope you had the chance, to see them, too.

Ps. my Red Hat done in  the W-P also some attraction...so I was asked for "selfies"....

JohnBoy,

sorry, but there will be no picture of mine anymore on the Landracing forum....

the last time I done it - El Mirage September Meet - they pi.. me so off (especially here "Salt") that I asked Jon (Wennerberg) to delete all the picture I add of this meet...this is the reason why this picture disappears after some days.

Thanks to Jon that he took care.

For you and Stainless, I will take care the next weeks and prepare the picture I done at El Mirage/Indy/W-P...you will get them, as always, on a USB stick.

John Boy:
I have a book about said  Air Vehicle that I purchased at the Museum many years ago.
The title is: VALKYRIE   North American's mach 3 superbomber.

It may now be out of print. Author is Dennis R. Jenkins.

I could copy some of the pictures from it and send to you.

I have a bit of a sentimental attachment to that giant bird; as I spent 3 1/2 years following an air grinder and other tools around helping to build it / them.

A search revealed some links...try these.
You might send me your address; and if I can't kluge up a way to copy and send some pix vie e mail, there is always USPS.

Volunteered at the grand opening of hanger #4 at WPAFB last Sunday. Helped kids build paper airplanes and straw rockets.

Showed them some 3D prints of some land speed stuff, too! Can't let the Air Force get all of them!  :-D :-D

You want XB-70 - you got it: https://goo.gl/photos/DJN6yop9vNPbva9X9

And I thought it was just the salt - that fills in some blanks for me!  :-o :-D

BTW: I grew up an Air Force brat and landed in the Army's little air farce in a galaxy far-far away a long-long time ago! :-P
