326 has a 3.750 stroke. Same as a 400. Not much help. I think it's pretty much a 55-56 Pontiac 287-316 crank for this deal.

Can anyone explain "cacklefest" reasonably to me. Other than noise, what do it do? If you start and run it, race it. Even a non environmental guy like me can see the waste of everything bad for us for the sake of noise.

I'm no nutcase, just smart enough to race what I started not look at 10-15 cars running for no apparent reason.. As ol' DW would say....splain it to me......

Hoffman-Markley have done pretty well with DeSoto motors. But that is not what this discussion is about. really it is about Troy wanting info on the Chrysler 300 inch motor. We just kind of got off on pontiac cranks and such. i do believe the 287-316 crank is forged and comes out right at the class break for a 5 liter engine. The 265-301 crank is cast and I never liked welding on cast cranks. And a 3 inch stroke makes an engine smaller than Sparky is looking at with the more available 331 block. Other people may have their own opinions. That's fine.

What's useful about racing a roadster powered by an old truck motor?

The XO/GR record.

At least you tried to accomplish something
(while still looking good as of last Friday).

The XO/GR record.

I congratulate you. But you're evading the question. And what's with being a "non environmental guy"? How does that fit with saving the salt, even?

Troy is doing a ground up copy of the roadster ( the NewHouse Automotive Tee. One of the first cars to run 180 mph. His dad Gary toured with  this roadster for many years. Troy wants it right.

Thanks ModelA,
tortoise.. U didn't splain anything.. My roadster with the vintage truck engine went A to B. It didn't get pushed to a line with 15 others and stink up the earth for no reason but the pleasure of wearing ear plugs.

I see no problem with Dave Davidsons 911 roadster, the Robinson 66 roadster, the Fergusons's 75 Liner, or Fred's 44 lakester  loaded up with close to 100 % nitro and accomplishing what they did and do....going A to B not sitting a parking lot making noise.

Sorry it just doesn't make any sense. But then this is the USA with freedoms I'm not ready to give up.

Cackle cars are a long way from the save the salt issue.
