Vintage / CC newbie here. Can this car run in regular Comp Coupe with a newer engine?

Not sure it is Bonneville/SCTA legal body wise. Better check!

Just curious- what features do you think would make it not legal?

Reshaped the back of the roof, not chopped even, the front visor, rear side windows mounted on the outside of the body, etc. But, what do I know- I just pick up the trash!

The visor just slows you down (IMHO), but if OEM would possibly be allowed. Mounting flat plates outside for windows is legal in CC. An  even front to back chop is not mentioned in the rule so likely OK also. However your comment about reshaping the back of the roof may in fact not be legal.(..."original general top contour is maintained." emphasis mine) This is one where communication with the appropriate committee person to get a formal ruling would be appropriate. (Page 195-196, SCTA 2016 rule book)

First words in Comp Coupe description . . .

"This class encompasses production coupe or sedan bodies unaltered in width or contour."

Seems like that would not allow angle chop or reshaping the roof.

Stan- you may be correct. Rule 4.1 top chopping applies and only says "reduction in height". My emphasis above on "general" contour is open to interpretation as are a lot of things. Someone official will need to look at it. If the current changes are not legal, it could be rechopped to original shape (5" minimum windshield height)

 I have no dog in this fight at all and have only responded because I got hooked into the thread when we had a big snowstorm locally and the OP commented on it, as did I. But if we can keep the car in the public's eye, might get a buyer or interested party. :cheers:

I stepped away for only a minute guys!   :-P

To answer the questions;

Windows and plates for window openings can be flush mounted according to the rules.

I checked with Dan Warner when I was first building the car and since a model t's original roof was chicken wire, wood and fabric, there is a lot of leniency for roof designs.

It's hard to tell in the pictures, but the chop is even.  It is straight down all around and the contoured metal on the roof was added after.  Inspired by Gene Winfield's car pictured above ironically!  It would be easily removable if you'd want to go with another approach.

This does fit into the competition coupe class, regardless if running vintage or not.  Drop in any engine you want.

I'd hate to shoot myself in a foot with the potential of a sale, but would you want to run a box like my model t in the modern cc class anyways?

Thanks,
Sam W

Sounds like speed week was a success for most on the shorter courses!  Congrats to all the new records.  Bumping the car back to the top.
