Alvord has been brought up several times in the last few years and a few negative things stand out.
Since it is also used by "land sailers" and non sanctioned motorcycles and atv's, I doubt the BLM would allow any event by a Group of Racers to use it without a complete perimeter safety barrier (The Thrust team at Blackrock had multiple helicopters patrolling plus ground security).  In Ed's case, their efforts have been done with very little publicity and therefor few if any spectator's.
The next problem is logistics.  There are no Emergency Providing services within a hundred miles nor grocery stores, motels or parts stores.
Ed could probably give some imput on how well the surface might hold up but remember, He isn't spinning piston powered wheels.
Although motorcycles might fare okay, If it is a group I hope they get permits first or the resulting publicity could result in closure to all future use.  Alvord is a more ecological sensitive area than The Salt Flats and therefor under a lot more scrutiny than what some still call the "Salt Flats".
