October El Mirage
« on: September 24, 2015, 11:12:57 PM »
Just curious if anyone has been to the lakebed to see what the conditions are like after the recent storms.
Still thinking on making the trip out from the East coast in October or November to see what the dirt is like and do my pics and audio streaming thing.

Any info would be appreciated!

The two day event is scheduled for Oct 17/18. The Sept meet was killer in that the track was held up fine with a larger than usual turnout.

Thanks for your reply Dan but I REALLY wanted to see if the storms caused any damage and if the October meet will still happen.

Gregg,
There were storms before the September meet and there was a storm just after the meet. The lake bed is still closed (as it usually is when there are wet or muddy areas).
If it stays dry for the next three weeks, we should have a great 2-day October meet.
If you have never driven/ridden on the dirt, you might be in for a surprise or two, depending on the speed of your machine.
Well, if you are a dirt rookie, you'd have to keep it below 150 on your first pass anyway.

Would be happy to see you at the registration trailer for rookie orientation on Friday, Oct. 16 @ 4pm!

This was posted on the SCTA website and FB page a few hours ago:

Message from the SCTA President:

Hi Racers,

El Mirage is dry, hot and beautiful like a sheet of glass. The race tracks have
been laid out and prepared for racing. The two courses look great. We should
have an excellent event as long as the weather cooperates.

All new drivers (rookies) must attend rookie orientation Friday at 4:00 P.M.
if they want to run on Saturday, or Saturday at 4:00p.m, if they want to run
on Sunday. Inspection begins Friday afternoon around Noon.

Arm bands are required at the starting line for everyone; you can acquire your
armband at the registration trailer. If crew members need arm bands early on
Saturday or Sunday the registration trailer will be open around 6:00 a.m. to
7:00 a.m. starting on Saturday morning. No other services, inspection, Etc.,
will be available until after 7:00a.m. on Saturday and Sunday morning.

We will notify you as soon as possible if the weather prohibits us from racing.

Remember drivers meeting starts at the starting line at 7:15a.m., Saturday
and Sunday morning.

Course walk is Friday and Saturday night at 5:00p.m.

El Mirage Lakebed is CLOSED due to the recent rain - We will have an update for you soon frown emoticon "

Well, just got of the phone with Bill Lattin.
Yes, Lakebed is currently closed. There is some standing water on the course. BLM says it should dry quickly
and if we don't get any additional rain, it should get re-opened Tomorrow.
That's all we got right now. Will post more ASAP.

Man-o-man-oman, this just ain't a good year for land speed racing.  I'm SO glad I got to make a few passes at the SCTA/Mojave meet.  Borrowed gear, borrowed scooter -- whatever it took, at least I got to make some runs.  Thanks again, Shane and everyone that helped me.
