Stainless oval head Dzus Buttons?
« on: September 09, 2015, 03:09:55 PM »
Does anybody know who makes stainless dzus buttons? Corrosion is epic on our steel buttons and do not want to risk galvanic corrosion with aluminum buttons on steel panels.

It appears they do not carry stainless in the common .40 body diameter (.437) in stainless.

Google says:

http://www.southco.com/en-us/81-82-85
http://www.racebolts.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=723
http://www.skybolt.com/

These three sources do not show the typical auto racing style dzus button. I would have to change my receptacles.
I saw them earlier in my search but double checked since I saw this post.

MilSpec has them in both FO and AO style usually made to order in about 4 weeks. Pricing is very reasonable we have been using the same ones since 08 after going through hundreds of steel and aluminum fasteners that corroded badly.

Rob,
Another option is to have them electroless nickel plated. Almost as good as stainless. Back when I was  in the "work force" we made large hydraulic manifolds for off shore work and we would make them from steel and use electroless nickel plating worked great in the North Sea.

Exactly what Rex said
I have electroless plated many parts and fasteners rather than paint or other plating.  The new car was only once on the salt, but every plated part is in excellent shape.  The non plated or cad plated stuff not so good.  I have a huge box of new stuff to go next week.
Plated hex drive dzus buttons still look new.  I am convinced in the benefit, and am a good customer.  I'm trying to make him a sponsor.......

It is not perfect, but really close.

I must extremely lucky. I've been using standard cad plated dzus fastener for over 30 years on my roadster mostly on the aluminum hood and never ever had a corrosion problem. The paint wore off the hood in the first year so it's been the fastener on the unprotected aluminum ever since. I do remove the hood and sometimes the body after every trip to Bonneville for cleaning so mabe that helps. The fasteners are stored in a plastic  container in one of my cabinates until needed. I sometimes polish the head face with a buffing wheel when reassembling. I think most were bought from swap meets and others purchased from Summit. All are cad plated.....Good Luck....
