Wow!!!

The World Record in the 1/2-mile is 234 mph.

I think the World Record in the 1000-ft. is about 325 mph.

I guess a car slows down after 1000 feet to 234 mph in 2640 feet.

Maybe these are apples and oranges?

I see they have a "RWD Unlimited" class. Do they only run closed-body vehicles, or could a person run a dragster in RWD Unlimited?

You're right Stan!  BTW, The reason it's not a 1/4 mile is the engines won't survive to that point at that power level.

I wish I could find the info on this before now. A drag racer that was at my tuner when I was there last time mentioned it but I couldn't find anything on it when I looked later. Oh well, looked like a fun event anyway.

You may want to do a fact check on that comment. The reason for the 1000 feet was for safety, had nothing to do with engines living.
Fact is, the tires and the shorter tracks were getting to be a big safety issue at 338+ MPH, and they were getting faster at nearly every race.

The tires were not holding up at those speeds, and the shorter tracks were getting to the point of no safety margin for shutdown after a run.

Yes, the orginal reason they went to 1000' was for safety.  However, for the past few years, they have been pushing the engines 2,000 more to 10,000 HP and are rev limiting them by the 850' mark to keep the engines together.

How can a blown nitro engine be "rev limited"?

Pull tons of timing out, "soft limiter".

The rev. limiters are in fact hurting more engines than they are saving.

Ie. you pull timing out, you putout holes, you putout holes, you hydraulic cylinders, you hydraulic cylinders, you lift the heads and brake rods, and so on goes the damage.

Langdon ran 299+ at the 1/8th weekend before last, and 3.66 elapsed time @ 1000 feet. He had four holes out from about the 700 to 800 foot mark, if not for the rev limiters, who knows what that pass would have been. Quickest pass ever, impeded by electronics.

The class is gear limited as well, and tire size limited, and blower type limited..... the limits used to try and pin these cars back goes on and on.  It's not going to be too long before they limit fuel pumps, and then we'll really see some fire balls.

What's beyond 5420' ?  Grass?

What is "roll racing"?

Mike, we ran the Texas Mile when it first started with the 1000, set up for Bonneville, weight on and rear brake only.... 186 MPH but ran off the end a couple of times before we started shutting down early and downshifting.... would not do any of those short course events without brakes front and rear.
