BMST ROLLOVER REGISTRATION 2015-16 100% ?
« on: August 28, 2015, 02:38:02 AM »
So, Im just wondering, What did everyone else decide ?
I gave 100% , My thinking, As a Promoter / Owner / Business Woman to have a complete cancellation
must be a total loss for BMST !  That could be pretty tough on the promoter of an event, What if it was so
tough on them, They stopped having it ?  What would we do? Go to Speedweek and try to run with a thousand cars ?      But still, I would like to know what all of you other racers decided ?

To start with i applaude Delvene and everyone involved in the decision to cancel ,
Tough decision but given the conditions needed to be done
few others here that attended WOS last yr will know how quickly the access to pits from the end of the road chopped up with traffic , damage i could still see with a drone flyover posted in the last few weeks
Its currently a fragile enviroment and needs care if we want to have continued use

I asked for a refund , after costs have been taken out and left $100 extra
i believe the suggested 15% costs are well below actual costs to this point and BMST is being particulary kind in not keeping at least 25% before applying refunds or 2016 credit

Maj, O.K. That sounds right,  The 25%, Thats what I was talking about, I liked that that they didnt just say ,  Here is What Were Doing !  An take out a percentage .
An I know a Cancellation , As I say, Has to be a Total Loss For a Promoter.. Such as Delvene

It's all GOOD :-) :-) :-)  I'm on a very small budget with NO SPONSOR. I had two bikes registered.....................will roll it over to next year.......PLUS I am sending $300 as a donation to the volunteer fund.............I like the idea of having a practice track.........but particularly want to support the cost to appoint a volunteer as PIT-STEWARD

Its in the BMST refund offer as option #1 to donate 50% of your fee to fund a practice track...............This has been discussed for a few years. It would take 2 or more volunteers to officiate the track plus the coarse-prep...........BMST needs $$ to fund the additional volunteers............BMST provides basic transportation, hotel, and meals..........plus insurance etc..............so maybe $75 to $100 per day for each volunteer...........that's why I named it the volunteer fund :-) :-) :-)

First post evah in here..

Anyway,my Australian friends flew over as they had already confirmed their flight, and were in Salt Lake City and drove on over to Wendover for the h..l of it and went out on the salt, they called me today and said only the very top was sorta dry, mushy underneath, and the salt would have been slaughtered by us had we gone there..he did make a funny video or two and sent them to me,the header of the email was *Paul running at Bonneville!*...he had a helmet on and was physically running towards the camera, while the audio part was a recording of the announcer from last years event calling out his speed..made me laugh out loud, cheered me up a bit too..

So theyre off to Yellowstone tommorrow rather than stay in Wendover,as Paul and Sally(Martin) got hitched right before they flew over, then theyre off to Vegas and Hawaii for the honeymoon stuff..lucky them!
Congratulations to them!

Went with the 50% contribution and 50% towards next year's event.
Seemed like the right thing to do.

What would we do? Go to Speedweek and try to run with a thousand cars ?

SpeedWeek usually has three courses.  Very little wait time.  A long track for the rapid guys.  A combo long / short course and a short course.  As a bottom feeder I run the short course.  Never waited longer than 20 minutes.  Try maybe 300 cars.  I just hope and pray that the sat heals and running there resumes.

Wow !  Bill, I stand corrected, I thought it would be totally the other way round as I said..
I have always thought Speedweek was all about cars and a few bikes ventured in there .
Are the entry fees around the same ?
Again, Here I go, Im thinking its a couple hundred more to run Speedweeks ?
How are bikers treated ?

I have run my bikes at both events for several years. Bikes are treated fine at Speedweek but I switched to AMA because the wait time to get a run was just getting ridiculous. Plus AMA is more of a nationally recognized record than SCTA. AND the expensive/shortage of hotels during Speedweek, AND the huge crowds of racers, etc.

But the post above that says wait times have been shortened is encouraging. I may consider going there again.

In 2013 and I think maybe 2011 and 2012 Speedweek had 4 courses.

We made 21 passes on the short course in 2013 and could have easily made more.

I have never witnessed any difference in the treatment between cars and bikes.

Just my experience, Don

There's no difference in the treatment of bikes.  We have our own tech crew.  Line up is first come first served.  As I said with three courses wait ti,e is minimal.  In 2013 I made nine runs and the only wait I can remember is when a roadster lost some parts.  Other wise it was show up, set up and run.  This was on the short course.  The long course seems to be a lot slower.  I can only guess that's because some of the really fast cars take a while to get set up and ready to run.  Understandable.

The short course starter, Buddy James, and his crew keep things moving along.  Plus he is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet.  He is one of the people I look forward to seeing on the salt.
