Two years ago I took the Streamliner (10 days after the incident) to the Blacktop Nationals Car Show here in Wichita...
Last year when the organizer called and asked if I could bring a racecar we had just tossed a rod on an extended 10K dyno pull and I was scrambling to put another motor in the car before the WoS.
When he called last week I said I could bring it... Without the nose... Johnboy has it in Denver repairing the damage inflicted during last year's axle break at 220 MPH. He asked me to bring it any way I could... I chose without most of the body so people could see how its made.
So I spent Friday - Sunday at the show... attended by over 500,000 folks looking at the indoor displays, including the new Ford GT, and the 1000 cars displayed outdoors. During the show I was surprised at how many folks here in Kansas asked about the racing being canceled again this year...
I had about 500 kids of all ages.... mostly 2 - 16 but one that was 80 sit in the car... 250 of the families went home with the picture card (first... 50 Fri, 100 Sat, 100 Sun, all I had) Some folks told me we were crazy... others said Bonneville was on their list... a couple were building cars... I told them to get rulebooks.... the rules are different than the drags.
I referred them to LR.com, the SCTA and USFRA websites to learn more.
It was not nearly as much fun as racing but I had a great time
