Tires...
« on: August 15, 2015, 07:20:32 AM »
I'm building a open class naked frame dual Triumph bike.We race on pavement at Ohio and Loring. If it goes well the speeds will be in excess of 160 MPH. Getting Z or W rated tires of narrow widths like 120mm  is very limited in 18 and 19 inch sizes and they are all listed as "front" tires by the manufacturers. The listed rear tires are all very wide sport bike widths..I know I'm not the only guy in this situation...
So are racers using tires listed for the front on the rear? Or what?   Thanks

I spent a lot of time in 2006 researching narrow 17 inch wheels that would fit my mc .
Would have been easy to spend big bucks on custom billet 17's.
Ended up going with oem from Carolina cycle warehouse.
They were for a custom drag chassis that had 18's .

Don't know about running fronts on the rear.

I'm not the tire expert by any means, but I think I remember reading that drive tires are constructed for driving and fronts for steering - and arae even marked as such.  I do know that some tires will work either way, but those will have markings indicating which rotation is which for steer or drive use.  Look into it before trying a steer tire on the rear.

Avon AM26 Roadrider 90/90-18 Front/Rear Tire

You need to contact a knowledgeable tire dealer. Old Nortons used the same tire front and rear.

In my limited knowledge the rear is for drive and the front for braking. If you put a front on the back have the arrow point in the opposite direction of rotation.

Not hard too find but appear to be V rated for 149 MPH....I need a Z or W rated tire.

You can run fronts on the rear. The issue comes in with siping for water displacement.
