BUB MEET... I'm starving here...
« Reply #30 on: September 07, 2006, 02:57:41 PM »
thanks for the updates. sounds a bit epic this week.
3 liners
all over 300mph
old record broken, twice by two different scooters
then the guy who owned it to begin with says top this!
man oh man... must be fun being a spectator up there.
i'm stuck in DC and the only speed I am working on here is chasing my 2 year old from running into the hotel elevator by herself.

any word on john? and which bike is he on?

Kent
That would be John Bjorkman It started out as a motorcycle with a 2 cyl. KB engine, crashed at El Mirage about 1/4 track, Later converted it to a 4 wheel lakester and it is now a 6 wheel lakester, 4 rear drivers. has run 218 mph. :D

Only Tone knows for sure.
I guess I have always been confused about that . LOL

I see the new owners J&P have made it to the line twice but no times yet.
kent

Kent the rider that came with the liner had problems.  Then they looked for a rider from those available at the meet with no real luck.  Finally they flew a rider in from Iowa that had been in the liner before.  By now it is the end of the week and they want the new rider to go down course on a test run and that was done.  After that they made a run, but I didn't get the times, but think it was well under 200 and I think then the meet was over.  So much went on it is now a blur and communications were not good out there.

That is one beautiful body you made (I took lots of pictures of it) and they have done a nice job with the harley in it and it should run well.

Kent, I'm one of the crew for your old liner. What a learning curve! Our objective was to get a few clean passes. Out here in Iowa there is no where to set up any procedures on how to get off the line etc. We dragged the liner off to one side and kind of got a handle on starting off.   We didn't get the last couple of bits until Sam Wheeler arrived on Tuesday. We finally staged and on the Wednesday run, a 6 mile-an-hour crosswind blew him off course before the traps. The final day we were able to get a pair of runs. Down Kilo 181.384, Down Mile 181.092. Return Kilo 179.609, Return Mile 176.805, This establishes S/PG-1350 records of Kilo 180.4965 and Mile 178.9485. Modest, but we reached our objective without falling down and hurting anything or anyone. Considering we had absolutely no experience with a Streamliner we are mildly pleased and can build from here. Sumner, it was very pleasant to meet you and I'll look forward to seeing you again.

Likewise and you guys have done a great job with the liner and I think your speeds will be much higher next time.  The whole motor install, paint and finish on the car is great and I did finally get to see it go down the course and it looked like it has a lot left in it.

I know leo did some tow tests with Bob George but I dont think he ever made a pass under power. Leo still has records at El Mo and Bonni.

The NSU/HONDA ran, I believe, around 120mph, they had a lot of German press and TV. around them.
People on the salt, really had no idea what it was all about.....but it is, and was, a BIG thing to the Germans.  The bike is a really nice piece and well done......the BASF
company payed for the shipping and the box/container.....the shipping box was almost as nice as the bike.

I understand they did some cutting on the NSU before it ran.
What was that all about  ?
