OHIO Parachute
« on: July 30, 2015, 10:38:27 AM »
What chutes are you guys and gals using. I have a Stroud land speed chute made for Bonneville. It's about 50 feet long. If you saw me run in May it did not work. Keith told me to get a different chute before I run there again. I plan to be back in Sept.  I know I just opened a can of worms but lets see what crawls out. My mount is good and at the correct angle. Thanks for the opinions.   SAVE THE SALT

Joe Timney at Deleware Chassis Works will be able to help you, Don.

I imagine he'll spec out a Stroud LSR chute with a shorter "stringer",
as drag chutes often hit pretty hard (although some, like TimeBomb
LSR, have had good success with a Deist drag chute).

I'd talk to Bob Stroud.  He usually doesn't make chutes that don't work.  And if the don't, he'd know why -- might be a simple modification of the chute, its deployment, or its mounting.

I have a Stroud "Bonneville" chute. 40 foot tether, mesh looking thing. I have yet to deploy it but will in September. Talked to Bob Stroud today after seeing this post and he assured me it would work fine at Ohio. I like that Bob talked to me personally when I ordered and when I called with questions.  He also threw in a guarantee!!  "if you crash and die I will refund your shipping charges."  That Bob Stroud is a great guy!!

I should qualify what I posted earlier:

--My B'Ville Chutes are designed for a 3500# 350 MPH car. At El M I should be running 225-240 and they were deem to "small, during inspection" for El M  due to the short stopping distance. I bought a larger chute for El M. and a friend provided an even larger secondary chute for EL M or one of the mile venues.

Joe will know. He fixed my chute problem. I now run a small Stroud with a very long tether with absolutely no issues.

I run a Stroud LSR Chute with "the big pop pilot chute " I have used this chute at Maxton Mile, Ohio Mile and Loring 1.5 Mile, it has about 50 feet of line.  Works fine for me... But call Joe Timey at Delaware Chassis Works he will get you what you need.

Sparky -

I was listening yesterday when he threw the Stude through the eyes at 200 and change.  Put a great big smile on my face.

Yes Charles - you have been missed!

Just talk to Joe at DCW.  Luke mentioned we run a diest chute, we dont but do run 2 different x chutes.  they're drag style, one has a short tether and hits really hard over 210 while exilerating is not good in the cross wind you often find in wilmington, it requires acceleration to make the turn.  Joe got us another x style with a much longer tether and its much softer and is perfect at 215.  Talk to him about your weight and expected speed. Hes been friends with Bob for a long time and i know his customer service can be friendlier  :-D.  Personally i find Bob perfectly "offensively hilarious" Joe is just well, Joey from Philly.
