Tire Size
« on: July 23, 2015, 01:46:18 PM »
Hi Guys,

I've been searching the forums on tire size / selection. Based on the positive feedback on the Battlax BT-003, I'm planning on running that tire.

Now, my question is re. tire width. Will a skinnier tire perform better at the salt flats? We ran 2 years ago with a (stock) 190/55ZR17. I'm considering going to a 180/55ZR17. What do you think?

Thanks,

Rob

I reason the tire width issue this way.................at speed, only the center 1/4-inch or so is touching the surface. The rest of the tire is DRAGGING air and compressing it to the surface..........which tends to create lift!

Skinny tires have much better traction in snow..............and after a few runs, the courses have a fine powder on the surface............like snow

Most people like narrow tires on the salt.
Motorcycle and car.

One car goes very fast with wide tires.
Good chance they will chime in.

Thanks guys! I was thinking narrower as well. I'll give that a shot this year and see how it goes.

Cheers,

Rob
