Glen,

Seems to be a two year pattern with  the exception of WF 2011.

Add 1968, spent the whole week in the motel before it was called, never made it onto the salt. Re scheduled in November, was really cold.

As I recall it was in the 1980 era on the switch, I would have to look thru a bunch of programs.

Then you also have partial rain outs like 2006 World of Speed which was rained out the evening of the first day. We just got off the salt when it started to rain. The next morning it was ankle to shoe top deep on the course.

Also Speed Week 2007 I think they had standing water encroaching on the back of the pits (west side) and there was concern it would continue to creep into the pits.

After the rain outs in '82,'83 we had to move the course down 2 miles the first day of 1984, ran 2.5 days and went home.

Yep, Dan, `84 was my first meet, and I remember it pouring after lunch on Wednesday. Didn`t start until Monday, as I recall. Maybe you also remember `92. I do, as we were in line on Sunday to make our first run and the Mother of all Storms came in. That was the one that threw me over the Canopy. Sid will probably remember when I appeared at the Motel with Blood coming out of my elbows and knees. As I remember Donna and Jane Teague mothered me into submission.......Then we went home........

What year was SW moved to Aug. from September?

According to my very limited research 1982 SW was scheduled to be September 19-25 and 1983 August 28-September 3 (both rained out).  Maybe it was moved to 3rd week of August in 1984 trying to find better conditions?

In the early days SW started in August and sometimes finished in September.  When did it change to later in September?

Glen is much more likely than me to be correct, but I found information somewhere that the first World Finals was in 1990 (October 26-28).  Thomason & Tradup set an LSA record at 299.xxx.
