What does it take to move a motorcycle into the sidecar class? (Yeah, I know, a sidecar.)   I'm pretty sure that most of the units I've seen were not 'factory' sidecars.  Can one just take a standard cycle and attach the necessary platform and tire?  Does it have to be a custom frame or just a regular bike with the sidecar stuff added on? (Though I assume a full custom would be better.)  Does the sidecar construction have to adhere to the special construction rules (for frame, tube size and tube wall thickness)?  This looks fairly straight forward, or am I missing something?

Thanks,
Jim.

It s pretty straight forward.  You can use a "regular" frame or specially constructed unit.  If you have you're rule book handy it gives you all the dimensions needed.  The sidecar can be bolted on or welded on.  Either side.  Sidecar dimensions are 12" X 32'.  Minimum track 32"  Minimum sidecar wheel size 10" unless you plan to run as a streamliner.  Then you have another kettle of fish to deal with.

I wanted to run Production Side car. I was told the unit had to be for sale by the manufacturer, to be allowed in Production class. I believe that was for production only. I don't think that applies to the other frame classes.

"Got'Cha" was first run in 1974. Bill Temple entered both 2 clubs in 1976 with records in AA/BGR. At El Mirage 201.79 and Bonneville at 220.

In 1977 Greg Temple started driving "Got'Cha" and entered the El Mirage Dirty 2 club in 1979 @ 201.97. Greg went on to set two records at Bonneville, one in 1981 at 241.848, then in 1991 he set another record at 262.230

Bill and Greg were the first father and son to enter the El Mirage Dirty 2 club. They broke the D/BFR at Bonneville in 1981 @ 241 with top speed of 249. This record still stands today. In 1991 they set the A/BFR @ 262 which was later broke by Duane McKinney.
