There is also the Ramsgate Sprint Revival in august.
A return to the historic sprint of the 50's and 60's. August 15th and 16th in Ramsgate, Kent. With bikes like "the Yellow Peril" and "Methamon", hopefully we will see John Renwick there as well.

ELVINGTON, Nr YORK. 15th/16th August.

BDR must be hard at work getting her machine ready for the next Elvington Record event on 15th and 16th August, put on by UK Timing Association (UKTA). The headline rides will be the wheelie attempt for a 200 mph plus speed (whole kilo on the back wheel, timed at the exit trap). Becci and Jack will be trying to sort out who is the fastest record holder on two wheels for the standing mile (one and two ways).

We may see Britain annex the Monowheel record too.

Spectators are welcome.

19th and 20th September - Elvington. Near York, UK

Following from the succesful wheelie and top speed event the UK Timing Association (UKTA) will be running a two day meeting at Elvington on 19th & 20th September.

Records will be made from runs in two directions:- Standing Start Mile; flying start kilometre; flying start 1/4 mile - ACU and UKTA.

We will miss Becci Ellis (BDR Hayabusa), but most other bikes, some cars and Guinness World Record contestants will be there.

A large amount of motorsport is held in September here in the UK.

For example the month kicks off with the Brighton National Speed Trials along the seafront. Then there is the Goodwood Revival race meeting the following weekend. And then the UKTA records event the following wekend (which is on the same weekend as two drag racing events).

All organisers hope to get dry weather, but this is Britain!

The event did not go as planned for Becci.  She is lucky to be here with us.  www.thesundaytimes.co.uk/sto/ingear/cars/article1598799.ece

From the linked article:
" Last August I became the fastest woman on two wheels when I set the female world record for a standing mile on a conventional motorbike, at 264.1mph."

Fantastic run, for sure. Leaving aside the question of whether it's a world record, if It is a record, it's not a standing mile record. It's a flying 132 foot record.  A standing mile record is the average speed for the standing mile.

A standing mile record is the average speed for the standing mile.

Not in the 21st Century .............

The phrase 'Standing Mile' has been used ever since the USA racers organisation on the east coast - ECTA - started this form of speed racing. Racers and organisations around the world know what it means and how the speed is recorded in a time trap ending at the mile position.

If you want to set a one mile speed record from a standing start (Mile SS) then that is timed from start to finish which gives a speed across the whole distance. If you want to set a flying start mile (Mile FS) then you may need a long run in - and the problems of Bonneville are to be found on a different thread.

We were timed through the traps at the end of the mile at Pendine for the standing start mile on sand.  It is normal procedure in the UK.

Well, then I guess we need a new name for all those records called "standing mile" on the FIA books.

Well, then I guess we need a new name for all those records called "standing mile" on the FIA books.

The FIA uses the descriptions in Appendix D:

"Distance Record, Flying start; 1km, 1mile"

"Distance records in miles, standing start; 1 mile, 10 mile, etc...... "

Have not seen 'standing mile' used in their documents.

Not to be confused with the "1 mile, standing start".
